EDE is the easiest to qualify class - it means even if you have a medical condition for which services are required, you won't be refused.
non-EDE means that if you have a medical condition for which services are required AND the amount of services required is above ~$6100 per year, you can be refused.

But when you get your medicals done, it means you can have the EDE version done (which is easier to pass).

NOC is "National Occupation Category" - it's a coding for your employment (doesn't apply to spousal applications though)

Sponsor, I think.

I am not certain on these.

They always redact security, though on my own I could tell when security checks passed because there were other things around those records that also were done (and while they redact the information, the printout is still chronological).

Field Operations Support System ("FOSS"). It's a different immigration database, the one used for inland files. My understanding is that the goal is to eliminate it for GCMS only, but during the (long) transition they may need to reference to information within it.

An officer reviewed the police certificate and it was good, so criminality will be "passed".

That's probably why the officer shredded the extra material. No sense sending along even more stuff they don't need.

What a mess

OTTAWA — About 150 newcomers got lucky Wednesday after the government decided to grant them permanent residency even though their immigration applications were unceremoniously tossed thanks to the recent budget.

NDP immigration critic Jinny Sims said she's “pleased” the government has acknowledged that a mistake was made and that it's redressing it, but believes the incident highlights a bigger problem.

“The real mistake is the deletion of all those files in a very unfair manner and the fast pace the minister is changing immigration policies,” she said, adding the pace of change has left little time to ensure a smooth transition, let alone adequate Parliamentary oversight.

Leading Canadian immigration lawyer Richard Kurland agreed Kenney made the right move and doubts the government will face any legal headaches from those not impacted by the glitch as the minister has the authority to grant permanent residency in exceptional circumstances.

You won't like the answer... anywhere from 2 hours to 2 years.

Security checks are not formalized like police clearance certificates. They are looking to see if you have anything in your background that might make you ineligible. This can include evidence you have engaged in terrorism, organized crime, genocide, etc. My checks were fast because they'd previously been done (on my prior refused application) but if the checks need to be done in Iran or Afghanistan it can take a long time.

What does this mean exactly? They accidentally deleted 150 PR applications and thus these people got their PR without any questions asked? This makes me nervous because what if they deleted more PR applications that they're not aware of. This application process messes with your head because you just have to sit back and relax and hope they're working on your file. How do we know if our application is well and safe? We haven't heard anything in a month when we got AOR from the vo. A lot can happen in a month... makes me nervous! I hope they process my husband's application really soon so he can land as a PR and we can finally move on with our lives and actually let them begin!

No, they accidentally issued visas to 150 people whose applications were supposed to be terminated along with the rest of the pre-2008 FSW backlog. Rather than say, "sorry guys, we weren't supposed to give you those visas, now piss off!" they're being kind and letting them in since those people will have wrapped up their affairs in their home country and they think it would be extremely cruel to send those people back (I agree).

The "deletion" they refer to is not a deletion in a proper sense. They simply mean the cutting off that backlog. But in reality they would have had to keep the data on those files as I believe there is ongoing litigation on the matter.

That is what they say to the public, that it was a fortunate accident, we have all seen many cases here with an extreme amount of negligence, in which they lost some essential forms,...or claim didnot receive some or all material! or the case went dead altogether till the MP interfered...etc.
I have sent some documents 3 times and I did not see them added to my file at first. I resent them and lo and behold the second batch of old ones show on my GCMS,...what happened to the first and last batch!!
The whole CIC is working random! Sometimes they respond to communications and sometimes they don't...

I have been through this:
I still don't know where are my documents that were sent (first batch)!
Why I don't see the documents that I sent recently? It doesn't show on my GCMS!
I have seen two cases here:
In one they claim some forms are missing however the applicant confirmed sending it. They asked for it to be resent
In another the application was transfered to the wrong VO.
These are just some cases, I am sure there is more in the mess
