Following up on this, too. I got A34 comprehensive security screening in my GCMS notes 2 months ago.
Just wondering how much time it eventually took....

In my personal experience, CBSA is usually quite diligent in returning the notes within 3-4 weeks. IRCC on the other hand might not give your documents sometimes, it will just put the ATIP request on hold for 60/90 days, etc..

My parents applied through PGP, my dad was sent through A34 comprehensive on Oct 17th 2023. We are still waiting. I hear a year is good possibility for waiting

Stuck in security for 13 months. CBSA notes show Comprehensive Security (34). No military or government employment history.
How can I find out the reason for being sent for security? I see some people saying they were sent for security for having a name matching with sb else or this and that. Is there a way to find this out? Notes dont show much apart from my security was received by CBSA 13 months ago and the last updated date was the same day it was received by cbsa.

Yea, I feel your pain. All this prolonged CSS shit can be as depressing as it is frustrating, especially when there is seemingly no justifiable reason to be sent to CSS. However, hope the info below helps:

Security Screening’ is one of the stages of an application that has been shrouded in complete secrecy. For permanent resident applicants, security screening shows up as a part of the Background Check (BGC) in their MyCIC account. The background check is a catch-all phrase for Criminality, security and info sharing.
Background Check status in MyCIC account will change from “not applicable,” to “in progress,” then again to “not applicable,” and again to “we are processing your background check” during the processing of an application. Since BGC encompasses criminality, security screening and info sharing, the BGC status changes once early in the processing of an application when the criminality checks are done and then again when the security screening is initiated.
A security screening request is a message transmitted to NSSD and screening partners to request in-depth screening of a person’s background.

The various types of requests and the security screening partners to whom the request for permanent resident applications are sent is as follows:

Sending a Security Screening request to NSSD and screening partners.
Steps to take when your application is stuck in security screening to too long?
The first order of business is to check your GCMS notes and see if your eligibility has been conclusively passed. (see 2. When does security screening start?). It has been more than 110 days since your eligibility was conclusively passed, then there is a high likelihood that your application may be in comprehensive screening and may take longer.

Next is to determine whether CBSA or both, CBSA and CSIS, are involved in the security screening. To find when the security screening request was sent or when an agency concluded its involvement, request CBSA notes or CSIS notes. With the help of the notes you will be able to know where your application is and whether CBSA / CSIS have provided their reports to IRCC and if the delay is at the end of IRCC.

If an inordinate amount of time has lapsed and your application is stop pending in security screening, you must consult a lawyer to review whether your case is an appropriate one for a “Humanitarian & Compassionate application” or for a “Writ of Mandamus.”

They will never give you a reason in an ATIP. Unless you receive a Procedural Fairness Letter (PFL) because of security concerns, in which IRCC will give the vaguest way possible to deliver a reason.

Sometimes, if you file a writ of mandamus, and you proceed to the stage where IRCC has to perfect its affidavit or go to a court hearing, IRCC will have to give clues about why you were put in security, in order to not lose its case on court. But it won't give you any clues unless it absolutely has to.

maybe look into the details in your GCMS notes.

I just got my CBSA notes. in my case, there is one “match” in info sharing section from US, which shows a person who shares the same DOB and has similar (not same) family name got ESTA denial records in the same year I traveled to / from US. but that person has a different gender. Ridiculous.

This record also has a “valid date” in early 2024, don’t know if that means this record has been cleared or what. Anyway my case is still stuck in comprehensive process.

I follow Chinese, Indian, Iranian, Russian forums/group chats for security screening subjects. I would be surprised if more than 8% is processed in less than 110 days. It is my 430th day in security screening.
