Lowering immigration now on mainstream news headliens: CBC, GlobalNews, CTV. Anti-immigration sentiment against immigrants sky high. Scores going from 450+ to 520+average since 2019. Canadian immigration has changed alot

@GandiBaat Remember you kept posting some poll with 60% canadians wanting more Immigration.

I bet that the other 1/3rd are home owners looking to milk their properties as much as possible.

It's hilarious to see the liberals in complete despair trying to fix the damage they did in 8 years. Now, after denying last fall there would be a cap on intl student visas, Marc Miller has reversed that position and said he is actively looking at a cap lol. It's also pathetic that the government, which should be comprised of "experts" to advise them, is only now realizing the tragedy they created in the immigration system when "laymen" like ourselves in this forum have been pointing it out for years.

He was putting the blame on provinces when the federal IRCC issued those visas, can't these people even count?

They are not capping anything, unless they cap it to 50k study permits per year - which is where genuine students belong. Anything else is just a pretend show. They are still talking about high 500k-700k/yr numbers. Which will still bring in minimum wage workers and will let this dumb LMIA money making machine go further. They are openly talking about how significant caps will push Canada into recession and how they need TFWs.

At best, this govt is publishing two stories, targeting two different voter bases.

Public opinion. Turns on a dime.
Give it some time and they will be blaming conservatives for being extremely racist or some unknown americans social infiltration responsible for racists outbreak in Canada.
If the house valuation drops, they will be out yelling bloody murder and how their "hard earned" money was stolen from them by racists.

Remember, the same folks were blaming non mask wearers to be responsible for ending the humanity as we know it and now yelling how lairs have kept them in dark.

Other way round. 2/3rd own houses. Its more like its unfashionable right now to support immigration because "it hurts poors! OMG". The moment rental demand crashes, you will see pitch forks out with home owners crying bloody murder.

Rents might go down but house values never will. In the case of overleveraged mortage owners defaulting, good.

Actually it looks like the other way around right now... In Victoria, my own place's Assessment is down by 150K. Rents are still booming. If the temp workers / student supply dries up, rent will go down as well.

For sure, but I'm confident that I'm not going to face a renoviction, at least not yet, as I said the unit is still relatively new (<2 yrs old). If the unit had been 7 years old or more, I would have been preparing to adjust my budget based on current rental rates.
Yeah. That said 7 years does not even cut it. In Vancouver there are rental buildings from 1900. I believe one called Barclays house is very old. Some need entire balcony to be replaced. So yeah, for a lot of folks it can be an issue.

Same GTA also prices have dropped by 10% or so last 18 months but are now stabilized. but rents have gone up 25% more., still rising.

Very common in low supply places like GTA/Vancouver. It reminds me of 2008 : Rents around NYC were still booming while prices were crashing.
