Can't really compare the colonization of Australia, Canada and New Zealand to the colonization of India though.Indians in August 15, 1947: Can we stop being a British Colony? or we'll fight you to the death!
British in August 15, 1947: Yea, sure. Here is your country, enjoy.
Indians in 2021: I was wondering.. Can I live in Britain or at least in one of its colonies? Australia, New Zealand, Canada.. anywhere I can enjoy the good sides of the British civilization, monarchy, law, army, education ?
British in 2021: ...
History explains most of today's sociological behaviours and politics. Don't get me wrong, similar sh/t is happening in my country too.
The Brits basically resettled a huge portion of their population, and took over aboriginal/native American land. They set out to settle in those countries or send prisoners there by killing off/ethically cleansing the native population. They are still primarily "British" today if you go back enough generations. That's why they still have the British queen as the ceremonial head.
The Indian subcontinent on the other hand, held 25% of the world's GDP at one point. The colonization of india was primarily intended to siphon that away and control the subcontinent. They can't possibly do to the indians what they did to the aboriginals and native americans and settle there. So when they left, there was not much money left and a country which had historically been divided into hundreds of kingdoms had to come together as one democratic nation. That shit takes time. The US needed 200+ years after colonization to become a superpower.
Having said all this, I am not leaving india for the money or the passport tbh. Salary is going to be equal to living costs and getting a visa isn't hard with whatever passport if you actually meet the requirements. I am getting out for social reasons.
