PR Visa Printing in the US

Background:
I got PPR on Jan 8. I emailed them immediately telling them that Indians could not send their passports out of the country, and I would like to print it in the US. Today, I got an email from the Los Angeles consulate asking me to send my passport. I have not heard back from CPC-O though, but I would soon tell them to ignore my previous correspondence. I'm sorry for the long post, but I'm sure some of the Indians here might be curious, so the following is the email I got: (The braces {} are to substitute my personal information)

+1

Email from LNGLSQuestions @ international.gc.ca

I wish that all of you get your PPR soon ;D

Dear Friends,

We got our passports with visa and CoPRs this morning. Thanks to everyone in this forum :)

Our passports and CoPR are valid until the expiration date of my passport, Aug 2015 and we planning to land by car to Canada in May 2015( just three month before expiration date of CoPR). Would this be a problem? Seniors please share your thoughts?

We applied to get new passports and we will get those new ones in March 2015( very long processing time at our embassy). Could we land with our previous passports( before exp date of CoPR) and also we will have new passports at the same

I am just worried about the 6 months validity period that current passport will not have by May 2015

Seniors please share your thoughts

pharm - I'm not sure from which country you are, but I'm curious when you get your new passports in March 2015, they would not cancel your previous i.e. your current passport.

In most countries I know of, when they issue you a new passport, they would cancel the old one. By this I mean in March 2015, your current passport that has the visa would get cancelled.

So when you land in May 2015, technically you would have only one passport i.e. your new one, and this would have more than 6 months of validity. So it should not be a problem. Your visa is issued to you, not to your passport. So even if your passport is cancelled, your visa is still valid.

This is just what I think.

You are right, they would cancel the old ones once they handed the new ones. I will carry both passports( with the visa, without visa ) when I land in May 2015. My concern is CoPR mentions the info of the old passport not the new passport.

hi guys

I am new to this forum. Are all the May 14 applicants getting their visa's in Jan 15?

Is this a common timeline?

I submitted mine to the Sydney office 19/12 - just trying to gauge an understanding of how long it will take.

No you cannot do that you have to land before your current passport expires or else visa on old passport will expire when you passport expires. CIC wont re-issue you visa. If you want you can confirm this information with CIC.

I will land before current passport/visa expires. Do you mean that if I get new passport and keep the old passport with PR visa, they will not allow me to land in Canada?

Do I have to land with the same passport that has visa stamp?

I don't know about Canada, but in the US a visa stamped on an expired passport is still valid. He will land before his visa expires i.e. a valid visa, though at that time he lands the passport that the visa is in would be cancelled.

Hi Xavier
Please enter your details in the spreadsheet. It is difficult to make estimations so far out, but if you look at others who have applied around the time you applied, then you may get more idea about the progress of each stage. Please put your details in the spread sheet to help others. Thank you.

I know about applicants already residing outside of Canada gets both but I'm just concerned about already inland applicants ..??

Thanks in advance

I strongly recommend you don't send any more email. I have read before in the official CIC site that among the reasons that can cause delay in processing is "Sending same enquiry multiple times", so it must be very offending for them to have same request being resent over and over. I believe there is nothing you can do now except waiting and trying to relax

I believe we are not going to have any news from Ottawa today due to its extreme cold weather :( Too much snow, messy roads and windchills at -34o!!
