I am Shocked :o

On 16-7-2014, I have taken the DD from HDFC bank, by confirming all the details, they said the validity is 6 months.

Today I called customer care and told them all the details. The Customer care said me that the DD is valid for 3 months only !

I have not sent the application yet

What to do!

Shall I use ICICI CC

confused

Buddy, Dont get panic....Check the below Oscar's post....Customer cares sometimes provide wrong info regarding the DD....It is happening same on BD for the standard Chartered bank...

[size=9pt] Rohit, The guy probably misguided you at SBI. RBI does not have a restriction. There are about 100s of us who have used 6 months international DDs from Indian Banks this year for FSW 2014. The sorry state of affairs in our countries is even people from banks misguide their own customers. That is why a lot of want to go to countries that are run with due respect to individuals and systems. :)

FSW is absolutely right in his comments. Axis, HDFC, ICICI and even Thomas Cook offer 6 months international DD in CAD. Please speak to their branch head / head of forex. And if it doesn't work by speaking politely, please ensure you know when to raise the voice. Unfortunately, this is how it works sometimes here.

Guys, I wann to throw some point on this discussion abt validly of DD..
Last year I applied for FSW 2013 and I got my application back with my DD due to cap reached.Almost 5 months elapsed, but I got my money back. This year while making DD I had a talk with Senior manager in ICICI, he admit saying International DD are valid for 6 months.

The following field must contain a value:

5. Fax no (Country Code)

That's the error I get when I try to validate a form without Fax number.

Are you sure about that??

Thanks again

I understand your point Oscar. But my own friend works for SBI. This was made pretty clear that it is 3 months of validity as per the existing norms. In fact my DD would expire soon! But can't help. My application was received on 9th May'14 and there is no way that you can push them!

[size=9pt] Unfortunately what seems in your case is you went to the wrong bank, Rohit! Although not all SBI cases are treated this way as I have heard at least one case where a guy has a 6 months DD or something and his application has been charged successfully using SBI DD.

But what I have heard more often is a LOT of immigration professionals advising their clients to NOT go to SBI for fee payment stuff. And now I know exactly why!!

Sorry to hear of your case!

Oscar - Appreciate your concern! I have a difference of opinion here. DD's are safest mode and I have no regrets about going to State Bank of India to get the DD made. There's nothing to feel sorry about. While it is good if I sail through but not getting an immigration won't be End of the World! Let's be practical!

With or without '-' , both works.

PS - SBI is the bank to go to if one wants a cheaper home loan or maybe a better deal on some interest rate as it is a public sector bank and will give the lowest / best rates. One stays (far) away from SBI when one is trying to do anything that is expected to be technologically advanced / latest in trend. Just my take!
