March 25, 2016!
I think this should be all of what I need to know; we seem to have everything else covered at this point, whew. I've separated the questions about different forms into different quote boxes so you can see where they begin/end.

IMM 0008:

- Question 3: UCI
Is the UCI something you get as part of other status? I'm pretty sure it's not applicable to my wife, because she's only ever had visitor status here. Is this correct? Also, I saw someone on another topic ask if they should just write N/A in the field for it once they've printed it. Good plan?

- Question 10: Current Country of Residence
She's currently in Canada with me on a VR. It expires September 18. We've already submitted an application for an extension through the CIC online, though. I'd assume we should put "Canada" and "Visitor" for the first two fields, but I don't really know what to do about the dates. The start date would be... when she originally entered Canada in March, right? Or would it be the issue date from her current VR (which was in June)?

Question 11 asks for the most recent place/date of entry into Canada, if applicable, so would the issue date of the current VR go there, and the original entry into Canada date go in the first date field for #10? I'm super confused about this whole part. :T

- Contact Information
It asks for the "current mailing address", so should we be entering her address while she's up here with me or her house address in the USA?

It then asks for "residential address", which I'm having a similar issue with. The CIC app for a VR extension considered her place of residence to be Canada, at least for the purpose of its VR extension form, so what do we do here?
IMM 5406
- This one asks for family info on parents, children (not applicable to her), and siblings, which is doable. Are we meant to fill in these fields regardless of if these family members are intending to join her in Canada? (They aren't.)
IMM 5490
- Question 1
What constitutes "first contact" in this case? Is it the date we first interacted when we met online, or would it be something else? Our first contact was through comments on LiveJournal, and the next evolution was communication through AOL instant messenger. Will we need to provide evidence of it? We don't have proper dates for the latter, unfortunately, because AIM didn't save chat logs or anything back in 2008.

- Question 9
When it asks about outings and activities we did together, does it mean within the period of our first in-person meeting, or collectively since we've met? We met online in 2008, first met in person for a 2-week visit in April 2014, had another similar visit in August 2014, and has been here with me on VRs since March 2015. Should we be describing things we've done together, period, or just within that first visit time?

- Question 27
Does our present situation count as living together? She's been in Canada nearly six months now, but only under visitor status. She's stayed with me this entire time, however.
I think that covers it all. Thank you all in advance. This forum has been a god-send.

Hi,

Are these all questions from you? I will try and help you figure it out.

1. UCI:
Unique Client Identifier. This is a number that the CIC allocates to every applicant. As long as you have dealt with immigration before, you will have an UCI. You said your wife is on Visitor Record? That visitor record paper should have an UCI, on the top left hand corner, below the application number. If she entered Canada with just a stamp in her passport and this is her very first time, she might not have an UCI yet. If so, then yes, writing N/A is good enough. Should you want to include a letter of explanation, that's good too.

2. Current country of residence:
Start date would be when she first entered Canada. I wrote "PRESENT" in the end date column since I never left Canada when I submitted my forms.

3. Most recent place/date of entry:
This asks where did she last enter, e.g. Vancouver Airport, etc. And also the date. The passport stamp in her passport has the date. Write that date.

4. Current mailing/residential address:
Where would you like the correspondences to be sent to?

5. Additional Family Background:
Yes. You have to fill up the form regardless if the family members are joining her or not.

6. First contact:
"Did you have any contact with your sponsor BEFORE you met in person?" So obviously it's asking if you guys interacted before you met in person. If you really cannot recall the exact date, then include a letter of explanation and staple it together with the form when submitting.

7. Development of relationship:
"Describe how your relationship developed AFTER your first contact/meeting with your sponsor and if you and your sponsor dated or went on any outings or trips together." You have to write how did the relationship develop. What happened after you chat with her on Live Journal, what happened when you guys met in person, etc. You know what I mean? I wrote about three full pages of what happened with my husband and I. Just recall as many things as you can. And I also put together one photo album of our outings and all that, and another photo album of our wedding ceremony.

8. Living situation:
Doesn't matter what kind of visa she is on, as long as you guys are staying for some time, she-is-the-first-person-you-see-in-the-morning kind of situation, that is living together. Six months is a pretty decent timing.

Mate, you need to read and give exactly what the form is asking for. From what I am reading, the forms are pretty straightforward. I know how messy it gets in our heads when we are trying to send in the application, I had to read more than three times to know what to do.

Take a breather and best of luck to you and your wife!

Great, thank you!

The border really didn't like us to say that she was living with me, since she only has a VR, but the CIC VR renewal form thing said for the purposes of that particular form, she counted as living in Canada. I guess that goes for these forms, too, then, and on my sponsorship forms I should list her as one of the people I live with?

Also, I've seen instances of people telling me to staple x and y sheets together, etc., but I remember reading/hearing(?) somewhere that you shouldn't use staples for some reason, and just use paperclips. Is that correct?

The border doesn't like anyone to say they're living in Canada unless they have papers, even though it's perfectly legal to do so as a visitor. :p CIC and CBSA are two different organizations, your application is going to CIC who couldn't care less where you are or what you brought with you, as long as you did it through a border crossing and not in the middle of the woods. :)

No staples. Paperclips if you must, but loose in the envelope is just fine.

Good, good. Thank you!

There's a thing in IMM0008 re: current country of residence (which we've listed as Canada, as you guys said we should) that asks when she's been here since as a range (YYYY-MM-DD to YYYY-MM-DD). Her current VR expires September 18, but we've already applied for a new one through the CIC and so she'll be covered under implied status for awhile until we get an answer.

Should I put the end date as September 18, then, or something else?

NO STAPLES???? REALLY??

I used staples for my papers when I submitted my application. There wasn't a problem with it. I also used those small paper clamps.

You should input the date on the current visitor record. Then include a letter of explanation that you have applied for an extension and now waiting for an answer.
