Hello,

I'm Australian and my Canadian Common Law partner is sponsoring me to apply for PR. Do I need to add in my common-law partner under section A on form 5406? Seems strange because then she would have to complete a form 5406, but she is Canadian and is the one sponsoring me.

Thank you.

Put your common-law partner on the form, but they do not have to fill out the form themselves.

It's just a generic application to Canada form, so it doesn't perfectly make sense with a sponsorship application. CIC will understand.

Just add her, I know it seems redundant but it's not a big deal. The sponsor doesn't have to fill that out.

Thank you for your quick response...much appreciated.

Do you have any experience with Form 5490. Questions 22 through 26 asks about a formal ceremony and reception and visiting each other during the time of our relationship and how we communicate when we are not together. This seems like weird questions because we are common-law and we are waiting to get married until we have a formal ceremony and reception. We have also lived together since basically the day we met (7.5 years ago) so we haven't ever been separated and communicate in person at our home together every day...so how do I answer these questions since they don't seem relevant to a common-law relationship.

Thanks in advance.
