Please note my code IA is initial assessment.. the date can be seen on ecas and it is the date they begin assessing a file. Upon beginning the assessment it generates the AOR or Acknowledgment Of Receipt. The latest is then send to us as a confirmation that Buffalo received and accepted the application as is. It also serve as an acknowledgment to the fees paid and for that matter we also receive a receipt of paiement. Now, they send us a Medical form and inform us that we may have to attend an interview or send additional documents.

if you ordered CAIPS before you should know that IA is somewhat the equivalent of Before Decision (BDEC). After a while and after doing Medical tests, is what I called FA - Final Assessment. This final assessment is normally happening whenever an applicant did med'l. The officer will review all the docx he received thus far and decide to ask passport or more docx. For this step they don't normally send a letter or email candidates... but i think they might do this because files are from their huge backlog or else it might be part of the new system they installed in Buffalo... who knows! On CAIPS i'm not sure what it refers to and I don't have mine close by.

Now the questionn is: will everyone get FA? i truly don't know but truth is if you get it, you're closer to PPR than ever before.

ae03yy:
about the "FA" letter, i think every one get it, i don't think it is final assessment, it says " we have completed the initial assessmentof your application, and expect to finalize your application without a personal interview". then there is like a check list if something is missing, medicals, RPRF and if they need additional documents or not.

that's it, fella! It's a final assessment notice

I mean like upon writing this they were about to review everything you sent with the application including what you did like med. and also look at the security info they have from you in Canada to make the decision. They will send you soon PPR. mcpol from Trackitt got ppr about 3 weeks after his FA. Be ready cz yours is coming up soon!! I hope by the end of the month or early next month at most.

Now, you might be right about the fact that everyone will get this letter. Let see how things go for the rest of us. Did you had any box checked? I'm just trying to get to the bottom of this new system :)

well freedom as i said, my understanding is:

1) application is rec'd in VO
2) a File# is generated if application contains all required docx (otherwise they send it back)
3) VO cash your $550, or its equivalent in US
4) They do RCMP Check
5 a) They start initial assessment (IA) by entering all data into their system and send us AOR and,
b) only in specific cases we receive request for RCMP
c) We get Med'l form
6) a) They receive Medical reports from Ottawa and,
b) run security clearance with Federal governments
7) An officer reviews everything but before that Final Assessment (FA) notice might be sent - maybe due to new system
8) a) and a decision is then made and if forms, docx, remainder fee, Med and SEC are ok then
b) PassPort Request (PPR) is sent
9) Upon receipt of PP they issue visa and applicant(s) may land till visa expiry date
10) Applicant(s) subsequently receive PR card and SIN card and Health Card too accordingly.

please note it should clarify questions we all have/had.
*AT ANY STAGE BETWEEN 5) AND 6) BUFFALO MAY TRANSFER FILES LOCALLY*

How will they give us FA? Via email or CAIPS?

And my application status on ecas still has only one sentence. Is is normal?

hi guys,

Yes fallsage it is normal that ecas states we begin processing your application on xx. I believe it will stay the same till they sent PPR. When ppr is sent you'll see another sentence added and basically stating we received medical on xx. Then you'll send PP and upon issuing visa, you'll see a third sentence stating a decision was made on your application. It is as if they ecas works one step less than where we're at. sso don't worry!

About FA, mcpol received his in a regular mail with request to send his original policice check and pr fee. So, we might still have one more mail to await before PPR as someone asked months ago. Now, i still don't wanna say everyone will get it... cause we never know. it might be that they send the letter to those from the backlog. Plus remember some of us received an email after doing Medical and it stated we don't need anything from you. Which can be interpreted as you won't have interview and we'll finalize your case when you turn comes.

All i wanna say is with the new system there might be changes to what we get in the mail/email. But it might also be due the the unprecedented backlog they mentioned on Buffalo website. This is as far where my comprehension of Buffalo gets me.

nkusi,

thks for sharing this link with us. It is scary to know Quebec is sooo much behind and all that's cause by the the way Federal administrates things. What a pity!

Had I known this fact beforehand, i won't have applied to Quebec. I calculate that through Quebec i end up paying more than the rest of immigration applicants. I closed an eye on this 1st fact because all my friends told me how fast it WAS. I could have waited from 2 more month s and would have been eligible for CEC. By now, I would have had my PR as everyone who filed with CEC in March 2010.

With QSW we pay $390 to get CSQ in 7-8 months and then more pain awaiting from Federal where we need to pay the same $550+490 as CEC, PNPs, FSW. By the time we receive CSQ, CEC applicants for instance are way ahead. THAT'S WHY I HATE QUEBEC : doubling everything. Doubling the process for tax, you name it. It is so freaking frustrating for me who's been here for 15yrs already, what about new immigrants? do they think about us at all?

What about you folks, do you love Quebec and why or why not?

I have been here for less than 2 years, and for most of it I did not travel (you see , doing graduate studies does not leave much time for a life).
I can't say much about other provinces of Canada, I have been in Quebec (Mtl , Gatineau , QC , Sherbrooke).
What I love most in Quebec is my family. Most of my family and friends in Canada are in Quebec.

I applied to QC because I thought it would be faster than other options, and genuinely wanted to live in QC . Little did I know about Buffalo/Federal system.
By now, I doubt most of things I thought about QC and Canada in general.... It is time for new plans, if I can get the PR
