Hi,
I recently married my same sex spouse in BC. We are applying Outland even though she is currently visiting. She had her FBI finger prints done and got the letter back in October. We just got married on Jan 12 and are beginning the process for sponsorship and CPR. We thought the finger print thing was good for 6 months but learned on Canada Immigration site it is only good for 3. Which is it? If we have to redo FBI check how do we do this without her crossing border again? Can we do it through RCMP?

Hi Gaggidhillon, I am now seeing your post. Can you tell me what # you called to verify that your background check was completed? I see that we applied around the same time, so I'm hoping mine is finished also and is already in the mail. Thanks in advance for the info.

It is valid for 3 months. You can have your prints taken by RCMP and send it with application, cover letter and ID by mail to CJIS, they will return it to your address in Canada.

Hi, I'm really a newbie. My partner read that RCMP won't do prints because she is not Cdn citizen. We did find a private agency that does the prints and sends to FBI. I was hoping that if she contacted the FBI thay would just send her another clearance without doing new prints. We are going to ask. BTW, what is CJIS?

I only paid $30 for mine done at an agency, which also guaranteed the prints, so when I needed them re-done, it was free. Where I live, the RCMP only do fingerprints if you're being arrested :p

I did 100% of my application in Canada and I'm American.

The FBI will need another set of prints. There aren't any shortcuts here unfortunately.

Are you using a channeller for the prints?

I'm in BC, is the agency you used a national one that is here too? I don't think we used a channeller for her last finger print check. I think it was the FBI directly. However, I'm not really sure. Is there a benefit to using a FBI channeller? I'm the Canadian and she is the American. :) This FBI thing is a little confusing. It sounds like having a guarantee on the prints is a good thing. Do they get messed up often? Thanks.

The quality of the ridges on your finger is the biggest factor.

The Channellers are actually rejected quite often, so it's not recommended!

I live in Calgary. I found my agency by doing a google search. I did mine the old fashion ink rolled way. Took about five weeks including mailing time from inside Canada.

Hi NicAnn,

I too have similar case as yours and currently applying for FBI background clearance for the third time. I sent my application last month on 25 March. The FBI Received it on 29 March. As of today my credit card hasnt been charged. This worries me because the last time they charged it on the third week.

Let me know the update of your FBI application. I Hope you received good news.

3rd time was the charm for me, haselan. You should see your credit card getting charged any day. I think it took ours about 3 weeks also, but not to worry. Sometimes the times might vary a little so give it a few more days. I hope it works out for your third try also. :)

I went on the RCMP website and it says you can for canadian immigration. You just need the correct form and the office you are submitting it to. I found their site through a yahoo search.
