Hi everyone,
I need a help about the family sponsorship.
I'm Italian, I'm arrived in Canada in August with my boyfriend from Australia. He's Canadian and we lived together in Australia for two years. We want to apply for the Family Reunion visa, we have almost done everything, but my questions is: After I apply for the residency, does the government give me like a "bridge visa" to stay in the country with him or I have to apply for another tourist visa until I have the confirm of my residency?
Thank you so much for your time :)

There is no "family reunion" visa, though that sounds like a nice idea ;D

I think you mean Permanent Resident application. Now did you apply inland or outland? For instance, what set of documents did you fill out?

You are visa-exempt, so 30 days or so before the 6 month mark you must renew your status in Canada. It's not the same thing as a visa. You can apply to change conditions and extend your stay online.

Unless you've chosen to apply inland. If that's the case, then you may submit an open work permit application with your inland permanent resident application that will do the same thing and allow you to work. The downside to this is, inland applications generally take a lot longer.

Probably I didn't explain pretty good.
My boyfriend is my sponsor, I'm in Canada with a tourist visa and I'm gonna apply for the permanent residency from inside Canada. I want to understand what happens when I apply for my residency and my tourist visa expires. When I apply for the pr can I stay here also with no visa or do I have to extend my tourist?

No, you can't just stay here after you apply for your PR. You may apply for an extension of your tourist visa though and if you attach a copy of your application for PR, you shouldn't have a problem getting it :)

Are you aware that you can apply outland while living inside Canada? If you lived in Australia or Italy, both Sydney and Rome VO's are quite fast so you'll get your PR much sooner than if you apply with inland documentation.

And you don't have a visa, since your home country is visa-exempt. You might have a visitor record, but it's not the same thing. If you apply outland, you can show proof of your PR application when you extend your visitor record (application to change conditions or extend your stay).

Thank you Aquakitty. So if I understood right, is it better if I go back to Italy and apply for pr and extension tourist from there? Or can I do both from here but with the outland application?
Sorry for the mess.

You don't have to return to Italy. You can apply outland while inside Canada and continue to extend your visitor status.
