If the court allow a burqa in the oath, then we have opened a can of worms. We can expect them to also win the right to wear burqa in the RCMP. They have the precedent as sikhs can wear turbans as part of their uniform.

I am not religious, have nothing against any religion, but to me that's just another typical xenophobic bill. If they want to verify someone is reciting the oath with a burqa all they have to do is put an official close to the person so the official can HEAR the person reciting the oath... I'd be more worried about verifying the IDENTITY of the person with a burqa than worried about them reciting the oath (and even identity can be verified by fingerprint and such -- I'm sure they already have to deal with that on airports and such).

Good question, and I agree -- at some point someone has to be able to verify their identity -- whatever that ALREADY is should be done on oath too.

I made refugee claim in 2009
Became a refugee in 2011
Apply for Permanent Resident Status in 2012
Became a Permanent Resident in 2014

I CANNOT GET A PASSPORT FROM MY HOME COUNTRY. BECAUSE I AM REFUGEE IN CANADA
I got Travel Document in Canada. With this Document every country you want to visit, you have to apply for a visa. Last year i applied for a visa to go to Morocco. They rejected me.
Can you guys believe that i live in Canada. Business Owner. Tax Payer. And Morocco Rejected me. If i want to go somewhere else. I have to apply for a visa again. If Morocco rejects people from Canada. Who is going to approve ? Give me a break.

Now; with this new law, i have to wait until 2018 to apply for Citizenship. Who knows how long the process is going to take and i will become a citizen and get my canadian passport. Than i will be threated as a human being !!!!!!! Please do not tell me it is going to be fast. No one knows yet.

I came to Canada and became refugee. Thank you so much. But that doesnt mean that i am not going to able to go anywhere else even for vacation. Even to see my family somewhere else other than Canada.

This law is ridiculous because it is effecting people who got their PR status before the this law. It is so against the Human Rights. In the long run i am sure people get their revenge from this government.

Sorry, but it's not Canadian fault that other countries ask you for a visa. You should be very grateful to Canada who gave you protection as a refugee.

Sure, and when we'll have 30 burqas in the ceremony, we'd have to pay 30 officers to stand up next to them ....

This new law should have been existed since long long time.

So what exactly are you upset about? The fact that you have to apply for a visa to go on holiday? How is that Canada's fault?

Canada took you in and provided you with PR. Now you are equal to every other PR and have to fulfill the requirements to become a citizen. No one is going to offer you any special treatment or speed up the process to facilitate your vacations. Drop the sense of entitlement, be grateful for what you have received and wait in line with everyone else.
