Hello Friends,

A quick question - Do we need to renew our Social Insurance Card (SIN card) when we wait for the PR decision? I've already renewed the BOWP, but my Social Insurance Card is also expiring soon before I can get my PR final decision, and I'm currently work full time, I'm wondering if my SIN card is expired, can I still continue working and get paid?

Thanks in advance.

Now they will not issue Sin card anymore, they will give you a pices of paper and you have to keep in save place. You would go to service Canada then renew it with BOWP while waiting for PR.

You can't apply for a SIN renewal without a valid permit but you can work on the same if your work permit is expired and waiting for the new work permit.
Until your PR decision is made, you keep renewing you work permit as and when needed and apply for new SIN after receiving new work permit.
Once your PR decision is made then you need to apply for a new SIN which will be valid till your PR valid.

Yes you need to renew your SIN no after getting BOWP, otherwise you wont get child benefit (in my case), EI (If it applies to you) etc.
Once you get your PR , You would be getting new SIN no since current one starts with no "9" & that is for Temporary Foreign workers.

It really depends on the company you are working with. The company HR, specifically.

The company I worked in the past stopped paying until someone extended SIN expiry date, and paid back after it's renewed.
The company I am working with now, HR don't seem to care. I have my SIN number expired long time ago and still getting paid. And so do some of my colleague PR applicants. I do have a BOWP; I just didn't bother to go to the 2-hour line-ups in Service Canada and witness the low-efficiency working standards.

However, this is something you don't wish to talk to your HR about. If you do they will of course say that you need to extend SIN card. Check with other PR applicants in your company about their SIN cards too.

How would I know when PR decision is made? Are you talking about the ecas status "Decision Made"?
If so, what docs would I need to bring to renew SIN at service canada?

Thank you!

Docs:
Passport, work permit, old SIN card or the paper which contains SIN number, and a comic book to kill 2 hours of waiting.

Thanks, I'm still waiting for the BOWP and PR, how about if I didn't get my BOWP before my SIN expire?

Thank you, So does it mean that I can work on the same company and get paid while waiting for BOWP and PR, with an expired SIN Card?

Yes, that's exactly what it means.
