Do visitor visa holders have to stick to their original requested days of stay?

Hello,

My guests' visa application was approved recently and they sent their passports for visa pick up. We originally put in the invitation letter as well as the forms that the plan to stay in Canada for 3 months (Oct, Nov and Dec). However, my guests wonder if they can stay for two/three more months. We are now thinking of booking flight tickets. Can they book their flight tickets for 6 months? Or they have to stick to their original requested dates? Any help is appreciated.

CBSA will determine how long they can stay on entry. If their passports are not stamped then they can stay up to 6 months.

They can change their plans. Note that how long they are allowed into Canada is always up to CBSA and is determined when they arrive in Canada.

Thanks for the info. How common is it to have no stamps?
it is better to stick to their original itnerary they have access to all your information. once cleared immigration they can change their plans.

They can be cross questioned about their purpose of travel to Canada. If caught lying or making BS they can land in trouble.

point of reference: just see the refusal and cancelled case of husband visa (previously issued) on the forum because they lied.

Thanks for your advice. One more question. How common is for CBSA to ask for return tickets? I think the cost of applying for visa extension is cheaper than the cost of changing flight return dates. How does it sound that they book tickets for 6 months and in case of CBSA issuing visa for a shorter period, they could simply apply for a visa extension.

If their return tickets are for 6 months away and when they enter they say they are only staying for 3 months that will be a problem because you are lying to CBSA. Since it is a visitor visa CBSA can ask for proof of the return ticket. There is no visa extension, they are allowed to stay for 6 months unless CBSA specifies another date when they enter. 6 months is a long time for a visit, better to buy the return ticket and change it after they are here if a specific date to leave the country has not been specified by CBSA. Less possible complications when entering IMO.
