Congrats on the AOR, it shouldn't be too long before you hear about the approval.
About the fee - indeed they will refund it, they might do it after stage 1, because they're suppose to check that your file is complete at stage 1, and see that you have overpaid.

I just saw that sponsorship apps are taking 50 days to process I just want something!

Up to 50 days. In December, the average was 35 days, but yet many of us got them within a week or two. It's a real crap shoot and if your sponsorship application is straight forward with little to question, then I am sure yours will be processed in a reasonable amount of time too.

I am still unsure why the December applicants got approved so quick, as it is unusual from what I've read.

Medical completed November 29, received in Manila December 11
Application was mailed on December 13, received (according to the postal tracking) on December 18th
We have not heard anything and are unable to view our status online.

Welcome to the thread and the spreadsheet! I've added you.
Dec 18th is a bit early to be able to know anything but hopefully in 2 weeks more or less you'll hear from CIC, some applicants have already heard back... You might get the approval right away, or first an AOR ( acknowledgement of receipt) then the approval...
Sydney is one of the fastest office, you're lucky!

50 days... Nov 7th??
50 days should put them on apps dated Nov 21st
Seems like they only changed their update date... and nothing else

It was the same with other months... because they started working on both december and november, the average waiting time is probably 50 days - but the date they put on the website is much further, like this they avoid having too many people enquiring... and they can work on "catching up" on the early november that are still waiting ( if you look at the november thread, quite a few people in the middle of november have heard back from CIC, while beginning of november is still waiting - at least for December they seem to be following the chronological order!).

PS: as fromadistance, who is normally doing the updates, will be away this week, I'll temporarily do the updates for the december spreadsheet. I'll try and keep an eye on updates!
