Damascus/Spousal since Jan 2010 or late 2009

i didn't receive any confirmation from Damascus. so i sent them an email after waiting for 3 months asking if they got my files, and they replied saying they are working on it, and they gave me my file number so i can check in what stage they are in the cic site (even though the status remains the same in the site).

I've been following the posts, so why has Abdurrahman's case been transferred to ottawa and Shazdehthesecond's case to damascus? What's going on?

vivi, my optimistic guess would that they are randomly offloading some cases to other offices. which is good for everyone.

the problem is that there has been a huge backlog for some reason. they are catching up soon. following the new immigration regulation from July first, the number of skilled worker and investment applicants will decrease considerably. that means they will have more time to devote to the sponsorship applications.

generally speaking, the conservative government does not encourage immigration to canada. but for sponsorship they have made exception because they don't want to lose any votes in the next election.

in other words, if a skilled worker case 7 years, they don't care much. they prefer to outsource jobs as opposed to import workers permanently and increase unemployment rate. however, when a spouse sponsorship takes long, it may upset the sponsor, which is a citizen (or will become in a few years like you!), subsequently decrease their support base. Not to mention, many sponsors have family and close friends in Canada.

In short, they cannot afford to delay the spouse sponsorship applications!

sohrab, yeah, i know it's a waste of money and not only, waste of time, effort (the forms r even more complicated since 2011); plus we would have high hopes for nothing after a few rejections we learnt that and many advised me that it's useless to keep trying and focus our energy on the sponsorship process
i have a dream i was just curious what was THE PROOF that made them changed their mind and let u visit being still in school (and medicine is not any kind of school) explains it; us here, we have no family, education, land ties; we do have strong work ties but it's not enough (sohrab, even having ur own business might not be enough); it's really case by case

i have a small request for any new member who just started their process and r not in the table yet; if u read this, please come forward and share with us if ur file was transfered to Damascus or somewhere else (even if u asked to be transfered to Damascus); having in mind to apply soon, it would be helpful welcome and good luck to all

Dear Missmini,

My husband is lebanese and im sponsoring him from Quebec. He applied for the touristic visa, he got accepted and he is now here with me! So, yes, it is possible to get the touristic visa during the sponsorship process. It's not necessarely a waste of time and money, but its true that you can get refused. The best way to know is to try!
