Hello everyone.
I hope you are all well. I have a question if anyone can help. My husband's application has been in Syria since August 2011. I understand that it has now been transferred to Amman. So it's been 7 months since the application has been received and have yet to hear anything. My husband doesn't even have a file number! I tried called Immigration here in Canada, and they weren't able to give me a file number or any status update. I tried calling Amman, and no luck.. no one picks up! Any suggestions on what I can do? Is it normal to not know the file number at this stage?
I'm so depressed right now. I just need some answers. :(

Dear hissa,

Don't worry the situation is almost the same for all the applicants. My application was filed on April 1st 2011 and it was received by Damascus in May 2011. I don't have a file number either.
I even sent an email to ankara (my visa office) but they didn't provide me with my file number.
I understood from other members that ur mp (member of parliment) can assisst u in getting ur file number.

Cheers up!

Dear Tati00

you can apply for a student visa while your application is in process ...
but you should take into consideration that there is a reason for your student visa to be refused:
- as you should convince the officer of your application that you would return back to your home country after you finish your study ..
and you should know that you have applied for a permanent residency application, that means that you will stay in canada...
so it is so risky and there is a chance for a student visa refusal ....

I was looking to apply for a student visa but that condition changed my mind . :-\ ::) ??? :o >:( :(

these days the most meaningless things can put a smile on our faces and give us hope,
today my wife got an email from ankara confirming the email she sent with her medical info attached, i know its no big deal but i was surprised since yesterday my MP told me the file in DEFINITELY in Ankara and one day later they confirmed the second medical, i can say im leaving iran happier than i thought :D, the important thing is to not get ahead of our selves and let the rest of this process work its way out

does your husband have coverage with his job? If so you would be covered too. You could call his insurance company and check how much the policy would cover you.

I went to talk to the MP office and I told the lady who works there that we have been waiting for 15 months and there is no visa yet. She said it is normal with the transfer and CIC has informed them that the delay could reach 2 years due to this transfer. I hope that is not true.
Finaly she told me if until this summer you still have no news come back to see me and we will contact the VO in Beyrouth

Two years??? Whos is this lady, and what gives her the right to make such false accusations. I am sure NO ONE knows what it will reach, and her saying two years is just going to make you/us stress even more.

We have been all waiting for a long time and this situation is really getting frustrating. What do you think if we could put some pressure on the Canada Government? For example we can make an online petition, we can provide the media with that news or any other things. I don't know, something regarding that. We should do something. They don't have the right to play with our lives like that. It is against the "human rights" that they are claiming that they follow.. We may be able to achieve something if we unite :) let me know your ideas..
