I'm in the process of applying for a Temporary Resident Visa so I can visit and see Canada before I apply for an Express Entry Visa in the future.

I'm a Turkish national currently living in the UK under the Turkish Businessperson Visa but I'm unsure what to select on the IM5257 document regarding status in the UK. Should I select Foreign National, or choose Other and then write Self-Employed Businessperson? I am not a worker so I can't select that as legally I can only work self-employed under my current visa.

I appreciate any help guys/gals.

Even as a self-employed person, you have registered your business and paying taxes to HMRC, right? Are you on a Tier 1 Entrepreneur visa? If yes, your immigration status is 'Worker'.

Word of caution:
You would not want to indicate your long-term plans in your TRV application i.e. no mention of "I want to visit Canada. If I like the country, I will apply for immigration through the EE program'

Yes I've got a registered limited company that I run but I'm not on the Tier 1 visa. It's a special visa called Turkish Businessperson visa so I'm unsure if it still counts as worker. It isn't part of any Tier.

IMO, it is a 'Worker' status even if you're self-employed. This visa class allows you to invest in another company + you can switch between visa classes in the UK. Nonetheless, you could ask someone in the UK Home Office just to be sure
