A quick, not important question. What does GCMS stand for? I crossed yesterday to visit my spouse and their computer was having issues looking my passport up in their databases and I think one of the two he mentioned was GCMS.

;D Good one. If they were looking me up in that database does it mean they were checking to see if I did have an application in process? I told them upfront that we were still gathering documents, but that didn't seem to be an issue. All they seemed to care about was that I was doing this the right way and wasn't going to just move to Canada on a whim. Could they see that I paid the fees?

Going to be crossing the Detroit-Windsor tunnel this Tuesday. Still super nervous, I have 2 medium suitcases and 2 duffel bags. Will be saying I'm staying for 3-4 months. I'll post my (hopefully smooth) experience after crossing x_x Congrats on everyone with their DM's and COPR's. I hope after getting CIC my Common-Law declaration we aren't far behind..

Good luck! I'm sure it will be smooth sailing for you, crossing at the tunnel has been so easy for me lately! The officers are very friendly and well versed on the process even giving me tips when I cross sometimes. I'm glad they hooked me up with a VR after I was advised by someone else on here to use the tunnel and not the bridge, it's been night and day!

Yes I'm pretty sure they can. The last time we crossed they could see that we had withdrew an old PR application, and they knew we had done medicals a few months previous (this was inside, mind you).

You know every time I've come into Canada via Toronto-Pearson Airport, they always ask me, "Oh, you were last here in July?"

I visited Canada in July 2014, and I have been back and forth over half a dozen times since then, usually for 2+ months at a time. Every time I get to customs, however, they ask if the last time I was here was in July.

Do the people at airports have the same access to information at the border crossings regarding my application, travel history, etc.? I feel like they have no idea what's going on—even when I say I've applied for PR (they look surprised). I can't tell if that's a question intended to catch me in a "lie" or if I'll correct it and pass their test . . .

Final timeline is in, feeling so anti-climactic:

Oct 15 2014: Received by CIC
Dec 11 2014: Sponsorship Approval
June 30 2015: Request for more info
August 28 2015: Decision Made and ECAS Status: we sent you correspondence please wait for it
Oct 6 2015: We request correspondence to be sent again (MP also requests re-send) because never received anything
November 9 2015: Passport Request by email finally arrives (this was the August 28th correspondence that never arrived! 74 days difference)
November 20 2015: COPR arrives, 401 days from receipt of paperwork

Now finding time to make a trip to the border!

OR - does anyone know where to find info about offices in Canada that you can book an appointment to land at instead of going to the border? We are in Toronto

Congratulations! That must have been a nightmare to wait for with the missing correspondence. I think you just call the call centre for that. There was a number on the COPR.

You know every time I've come into Canada via Toronto-Pearson Airport, they always ask me, "Oh, you were last here in July?"

Well, this is speculation but it seems like they have two different levels of information. At the land or sea border they have the people outside who check your documents, and if they get some kind of hit or suspicion they send you inside. Have you ever been taken "to the back" or whatever they do to you at airports when they want to grill you?

I can't help with an office, but I do know most people choose not to go this route because apparently it can take months to book an appointment. I'm also in the Toronto area, and the Niagara Falls border is just an hour or so away- it would probably be a lot easier for you to just drive down and flagpole.
