This is a common misunderstanding (some of CIC's websites are confusing too) but step 1 is only a 'recommendation' for sponsorship. The VO is the one who has to approve the entire application on its merits at the time they take the decision. IP-2 has the details in the appendix splitting out the responsibilities.

That being said,

Agree. A timeline/description is usually sufficient proof of intent to return if it's well thought out. Apparently, it became common practice for people to use PRs instead of TRVs when married to Canadians (in countries where TRVs are difficult to attain).
True. I was refering to the fact the the VO agent did not add anything to his quoting paragraph 130(1). Nothing addressing 130(2), no request to proof intent, nothing at all, as if a Canadian citizen living abroad could not be a sponsor. If that were the case, CPC-M would have not given a 'recommendation to sponsor' whatsoever.

just received COPR in the mail today :D

please update the spreadsheet! incase you guys are curious, PPR for me came on Feb 26th. Decision Made on ECAS showed up 6 days later on March 4th, and 10 days later the COPR showed up in the mail. The entire process from when Mississauga received our application only took a little over 6 months!

CPP-Ottawa, I'm officially impressed. Best of luck to everyone else in their journey.

LOL I was thinking the same thing! hahaha

I suggest the black cherry flavor, it's delicious!

Maybe some my of my other American friends have had their mind blown by this like I did: Mikes in Canada have Vodka in them! In the US it's just malt liquor. What is that sorcery?!?! I feel as though I was cheated out of real liquor for years until I came here! lol

How long does it usually take to get the PPR after sending in the RPRF? I've pretty much lost faith in my attorney, but he says, as well as other people I've heard from, that CIC will NOT notify us when they have received this payment. My husband pain it online, via credit card the day they asked for it, and sent a scanned copy of the receipt to the attorney the next day. We don't know if he (the attorney) sent it in just by snail mail or it he also emailed copies to the Visa Offices, but something tells me he did by snail mail only (Like I said, I've pretty much lost faith in him, largely due to the fact that he didn't tell us about the RPRF and tell us it could be paid upfront.). Can anyone give me any advice on this mess?

Any ideas or resources to cover healthcare for the three months until OHIP is in place? My US coverage ends the end of April so I will have two months to cover. Does travel insurance? Making plans for my move! Congrats to all who are moving forward in the process.

I'm a lady, tee hee!

Here's the story of how I landed today, AND started my new job within the span of 5 hours!

6:30 a.m., my husband and I woke up, got ready, and went to the car rental place to pick up the rental car; we had a 7:30 reservation. We arrived 15 minutes early but they let us in and got us started, and we actually were on the road by 7:35. We got to the Rainbow Bridge crossing at 8:30, Niagara Falls sure was pretty! We stopped at the U.S. border and to our chagrin, we realized my husband forgot his passport. The border guard was a total jerk about it and copped an attitude when he asked my husband for his drivers license, and for no reason he took our IDs and sent us into the US border office. We waited there about 5 minutes before another border guard took us back, and I told him how rude the other guard had been to us...turns out it wasn't even necessary for us to go in there since I was a US citizen and we were literally just crossing to turn around and go right back the other way, the guy was just being an ass. We got our IDs back and went on our merry way; the border agent on the Canada side was the complete opposite of the US one, he was extremely friendly and excited for us. We walked into the CBSA office and didn't even have to wait, we were seen right away. The agent who finished my paperwork asked us a few routine questions like where we lived, and with a couple initialed lines and a signature, I was officially a permanent resident! We were on our way back home by 9 a.m.

10 a.m., we got back to our hometown, where I went to the Service Canada office to get my SIN. I swear, I must've had the Bureaucracy Fairies on my side today because it literally took me 7 minutes to get my new SIN. Then I walked across the parking lot to the Service Ontario office to change the information on my OHIP card and drivers license, which took about 20 minutes (most of that time spent waiting in line). My husband and I had a celebratory breakfast at Tim Hortons, refilled the rental car gas tank, drove back to the rental agency, and finally, the rental agent drove me to my new job and my husband back home!

I started that office manager job today at 11:30, by the way! From nervous wreck to employed immigrant in 5 hours flat! Welcome to Canada, indeed.

I hope everyone else's landings are as smooth and quick as mine (although I hope nobody else gets a rude border guard on a power trip)!

Just to be sure, we mailed the RPRF recepit to CPC-M and CPP-O. I read in other posts that the RPRF should be sent to CPC-M.

Hey kfair, we received COPR on 2/12/2013. We applied in May. I suspect your COPR should be any day as it looks like the most folks have been waiting is a little over 30 days at the max. Are you sure they received your passport? It does drive you crazy! Good luck to you as well.
