COPR and coronavirus

Hey Smithplato,

Just to clarify, raising a webform prior to the expiry of CoPR is not necessary anymore right? - only when we're 'ready to travel' ?
Yes , I agree . The purpose of the webform is to provide information as to when COPR had expired along with reasoning that how the travel is essential. The use of the word “ only“ in the guidelines signifies that others ( those who don’t satisfy two conditions) are not required to raise the webform.

the guidelines categorically mention two conditions to raise the webform:
A. expiry of COPR / PRV
AND
B. Being ready to travel

Only permanent resident applicants who are in possession of an expired COPR and PRV and who are ready to travel to Canada should contact IRCC using the Web form, to provide information on when the COPR expired and the non-discretionary reason(s) for travelling.

Disclaimer:This is my interpretation and I could be wrong

Hi, congrats on your landing. I was interested to know about your landing experience.

Did they ask you if you are landing temporarily or permanently? If they asked about it, did they ask for any documentation either way? What documentation were you carrying on you?

Are you currently quarantining in Canada?
Nothing has been asked about temporarily or permanently, i even landed temporarily and leaving end of august, i was carrying all the possible documents from my quarantine plan, to pr delivery address, email of local health about my approved quanratine plan, and lots of other documents, just for the safe side but nothing have been asked,

14 days quarantine is mandatory by law, so no one can escape from that.

Thanks.

Hello,

i recently read on ircc website regarding soft landing. for now they aren't allowing anyone to do soft landing? and when they say soft landing, does it mean to have shorter stay than quarantine period (which is 14days)? is there any way out to come back lets say in a months time?

the reason why i looking for option is at the moment Canadian economy is struggling due to pandemic and due to the fear of not getting employed there i wanna keep my chances to continue my existing employment.

looking for feedback.

TIA
I arrived in Canada on 2nd august as temporarily and will be back on 30 Aug, nothing has been asked so i wil recommend who ever planning to travel on temp. basis can do that confidently as seems extension of expired visa will be much more of headache, any questions please msg me and happy to answer

Yes, you are right.

Nobody can escape from this 14 days quarantine. It sucks! I am also put up in quarantine now.

Hi All,

I wanted to share my experience which happened this morning. My parents were not allowed to board their flight on Lufthansa Airlines from Kenya to Vancouver, even though they had valid COPR and all necessary travel documents as well as additional proof for valid travel. Here are the details:

My parents COPR was issued before March 18 2020, so they are officially allowed to travel to Canada
Travelling from Kenya to Vancouver on Lufthansa (stop over in Frankfurt).

They were denied boarding at the Lufthansa check-in counter, with the reason officially being that travel documents were missing (I got that information by calling Lufthansa Frankfurt office just a few minutes ago).
I spoke with the Lufthansa check-in agent in real time (called Mom this morning and amazingly the Lufthansa agent took her phone to speak with me), I was told 2 different reasons why they were not allowed on the flight
1.passport did not have valid ETA (according to CIC, if valid COPR is present, ETA not required; also, the ETA IS still valid);
2. 30 minutes later, they demanded a "Card" in order to board. When asked what specific card they need, I was told they called the "Canadian Border" and her "Card" was not prepared in Canada, therefore not allowed to board.

While this was happening, I had called CBSA border services info line, and they agreed with me that my parents should have been allowed on. Lufthansa needed to communicate directly to CBSA liaison officer (all airlines have direct number).

No idea why Lufthansa did not allow them to board, and nobody is able to give us a definitive answer.

Can anyone confirm any other airline that is allowing COPR holders to travel to Canada?

Was hoping for any insight or advice regarding our current situation.

American Airlines is allowing from US to enter Canada. The agent at the check in counter is usually not aware of COPR documents. She asked us to show PR cards as well. Later she spoke to her manager who was more informed about the process and told her to check if our COPR document was valid. Once she checked that, she printed out our boarding pass.

Thanks for the insight, if we are stuck with Lufthansa, we will insist on the agent verifying with the manager (fingers crossed she isn't the manager). Appreciate the assist

You can definitely travel as your COPR is issued before Mar 18.
There is nothing like "soft landing". It is a term given by people like us. At present IRCC wants only those people who are looking to come and settle permanently to restrict people from travelling frequently.
But no one can stop from coming back after 15-20 days. Just make sure to make arrangements for your PR card otherwise you have to apply for PRTD for entering into Canada again.
Also, flight from Canada to India.

Not sure what was the issue, but you should have asked them whats the exact reason? Have u ever asked them? I flew 2nd august (temporary landing) from abu dhabi and have return ticket, no one is looking into that...and thats logic. What if u land and purchasing a one way ticket again after landing, what if u have the valid visa of the country ur departing from, doesnt make sense, for me my travel experience was real smooth and no hiccups at all,
The airline told me CBSA inform them that my travel is not considered essential... (my copr is valid still and issued before Ma 18th)

I was completely shocked as well. And yes, whats the point of one way ticket when I can buy another one way ticket if I need in Canada.
I will try again actually.

It doesn't make sense to me either... this is what's frustrating.

Have you tried contacting the embassy/consulate in Kenya? High commission of Canada in South Africa informed me over the phone that Lufthansa and Qatar are functioning for PR and CoPR holders as repatriation flights. They suggested I contact them when I have valid documents (my CoPR is currently expired). They said they will provide a letter permitting travel to airport (we have travel limits in SA) and also to board the plane. I haven't done this yet so I'm not 100% sure it will work out, but am counting on this info for when my CoPR is extended.
