I am beginning to think this was just a smoke screen for elections....

Give people what they want to hear and they will vote for you. People where in a heightened state because of bad press from a few MOC's and so the government has to placate the people. So throw something out there and let the people feel like they are actually being taken care of.

I understand where you are coming from but there is nothing about this CONSERVATIVE government that should make you think they will NOT crack down in a substantial way on MOCs. The Parliamentary process does not happen overnight. This proposed legislation was only introduced a couple of months ago and they have hundreds of comments from the public imput portion to go through. If you watch the news, you can see that they are re-introducing the proposed legislation on human trafficking. That is a much older piece of legislation than this. It takes time. But don't fool yourself into thinking they will do nothing.

Don't get me wrong. I would love it if it was never passed! I prefer the other proposed piece that bars the applicant from sponsoring a new spouse for a period of time but I think that one should be changed as well. (To 3 years instead of 5).

This is immigration after all! When have you ever seen them do something FAST?

I just now focused on the details of implementation -- and we know that the Devil is in the details.

From Rjessome's initial extract: "...the condition would be automatically lifted after the specified conditional period had elapsed." What does "automatically" mean? Will CIC do spot checks (e.g. a surprise visit to the home to see if hubby and hubbette live together) , or must the conditional PR provide proof to CIC that the relationship remains valid? If the latter, if there is another round of bureaucratic analysis/paralysis, that is nothing like "automatic".

this is how they do it in UK and USA... so simple and easy, you dont have to wait for years to see your spouse keeping your fingers crossed.

Nope. Stop sweating this issue, really. If it happens, what can we do but deal? If it doesn't happen, chalk it down to political rhetoric and move on.

A good approach to take IMO.

They still havnt updated the processing time for spouse sponsorship although its been more than 3 months. however many people opposed the proposed law. i heard that tons of negetive feedbacks on this have made it difficult to put it into force.

"They still havnt updated the processing time for spouse sponsorship although its been more than 3 months."

I noticed that too. I've been checking everday hoping that Singapore's average has gone way down.

it looks that in summer their productivity is lower, many officers r in vacation too; the sponsor approval takes now 46 days and back in feb it was taking 36 :/ the good news for me would b if the times stay the same but unfortunately i think they might go up still :(
spouse visit visas during sponsorship would b great, but too good to be true :(
as for the law, if they plan to enforce it they will, but everything they do just takes long time
