Latest updates from the leader of our lobby, the excellent A.U:

Also, as part of a media documentary project, the pressure group is looking for testimonials from people affected by these delays, here is the announcement of the pressure group on social networks:

** This is the same original lobby group called '' Advocates for Canadian Citizenship Test Resumption'', but A.H decided to rename the lobby group's presence on social media to ''Canadian Citizenship Process Advocates'' because the problem now exceeds that of testing ...
Really good iniative but the only way forward is to file a petition. Get signatures of all applicants stuck in limbo and go to the Federal court . Sue IRCC for mental torture and lack of transparency. Unfair treatment of applicants.

While I am happy someone is willing to help, but I am genuinely curious, what kind of help we can we can expect from the opposition?

Apologies if I sound a bit pessimistic here.
It is the job of opposition to bring attention to the areas where the ruling party is lacking. The ruling party in return would not want to be seen as lacking in some non-party specific areas (such as citizenship/immigration processing), so they MAY be challenged to do something about it.

The opposition party stands to gain if the ruling party is unable to or decides not to do anything about this as they could then use it as a campaign point during the next elections.

The quotas which are on priority for the immigration department are the ones based on number of landed immigrants, no. of student/worker visas issued, etc and even though they have a certain goal of no. of citizens sworn - it's the lowest priority because it does not have any direct economical or social impact. Granting citizenship is not an investment in human capital but strengthening the ties to Canada.

Also, I think media only screws it up further because they highlight the wrong problems. Like the news clip they ran on CBC or global about citizenship backlog - they focused on an applicant who has no last name and had been waiting for a few years. Well, that case is an outlier so no once cares.

Either ways, I need to take a break from this whole citizenship business now. Screw CIC. I hope y'all become citizens soon. Good luck!

I wrote to IRCC minister, PM & some NDP quacks about my urgent need for citizenship due to a security clearance. They responded sure but again its classic two-bit ‘We’re working, due to COVID, we cant proceed further’ sh•t.

If you think anyone in the government cares about you, think again. Maybe the republicans are right all along- Government is the problem.

The Queen is the only person I’d have to reach out now as she’s on top of the pecking order

Good luck @citizenship.enthusiast, at least you don’t have to worry about this non sense anymore.

Would it have been different if Conservatives were in power? I don't think so. Except for a few ideological differences, I believe every party is more or less the same.

Likely would have been a similar situation. Would be great if they are able to exert some influence on the IRCC bureaucracy or union but it seems that both are very strong for their political masters to influence anything.

Ultimately it is this whole culture of lack of accountability, minimum work and sitting at home with full salary which is the key driver of this whole mess. Many countries and their governments and bureaucracies took this pandemic as a challenge in terms of supporting their people and rising to the occasion but guess too much to ask here of IRCC.

What is really sad is that a good friend of mine just passed away from cancer and has had her citizenship application under process since 2019. She really wanted to be a citizen but the system does not really care. I wonder how many others are going through similar painful experiences.

This is very unfortunate . RIP to your friend but again IRCC does not care at all. They are the most selfish people. There is no way to fix this problem.

Sorry about your friend. Canadian Citizenship might just have been one of her last wishes :(

First of all, I am so sorry for your loss.

I agree, the system or the organization needs a big time overhaul. I welcome the modernization of test taking but other parts need modernization too. Especially on accountability front.

I wonder if something like a queue system that indicated that you have certain amount of files in front of you would have helped, who knows. I don't think there's a silver bullet at the end of day.

On a side note, have you tried writing to your MP? May be tell them about your friend & their experience? Or may be reach out to journalists (I saw some emails in this thread or some other one a while back), these are the kind of stories we need to tell to show the Government how their machinery is broken.

MP yes I will write and have written in the past as well, but they receive so many of these not sure what impact they have or how much they care.

In terms of journalists and media without disclosing names it doesn't go much further and it is not my place to use my friends name for something like this. Not comfortable doing that.

That being said, all of you feel like family to me over the last few months on here and this was bothering me in terms of how this process is impacting people and I wanted to share the impact this is having on people. I am sure there are many others in similar situations. I know we can't do much but overall this whole process and lack of accountability makes me really sad in terms of how it is impacting people.

That's understandable in regards to writing to journalists.

But for writing to MP, I have been mulling over that myself in last few months & I am also not sure what it will even do. :(

It actually does nothing. Its not the MP that takes up the issue, its her secretary who corresponds with cic, while IRCC gives her the same response application in process due to covid 19 bla bla bla. After a certain time even she stopped contacting IRCC because they treat her the same way as us. There is actually no way we can do anything. I only see going to Supreme court of Canada.

Sure, we can go to Supreme Court but it will take a lot of convincing for a collective case & add to that, finding a good lawyer isn't easy. Has it ever been done before in past?

First we need to decide our case is against the Government or IRCC . Then start a petition get as many signatures. Then getting a lawyer, i do not think we need a good or bad lawyer . We need a lawyer who represents us . It has never been done because there has not been a situation like this but now the pandemic is almost over, millions of people are vaccinated while CIC is not even moving, they cant use that excuse anymore. You can have in person ceremonies with physical distancing. If places like Service ontario or SAAQ Quebec (automobile ) is open why cant IRCC offices open and follow social distancing ? They have no planning nothing , its garbage.
