For reasons unknown, CIC is now showing all Outland processing times as taking 18 months (less 10 days for sponsor approval).
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/index.asp

Inland is now at 26 months, down from 28 months just a couple of weeks ago.

Could this actually be a positive step in the right direction?

Yes I noticed that today as well. I like the new way tbh, very quick and to the point. I checked the parents sponsorship time and noticed they are working on applications submitted in Nov 2011 so the processing time is around 4 years. This is definitely a good sign

This is very confusing. Are you telling me the Paris VO now has the same processing time as the Islamabad VO?

In the FAQ it still says that processing time depends on VO.

Hence the "For reasons unknown" statement above.

Interesting, but it's still misleading at 18 months when many people get processed much, much faster...

Why can't they give real information based on real-world times... Just to cover their butts?

"Many more people want to immigrate to Canada than the Government of Canada can bring in each year under our annual immigration plan. Applications received after the maximum has been met may have to wait longer to be processed."

Hmm does this apply to family class too I wonder? Could explain some of the large time differences.

I don't see this as a positive change at all. Another way to make it more vague process than it is already.

Oh, but it is...at least in terms of being able to get some answers if your Outland application goes beyond 18 months and 10 days (26 months for Inland). CIC has made it clear that they `Can't be bothered' to give you any information until/unless, you have gone beyond the posted processing times.

Calm down. There is no cap on spousal sponsorship applications, per year, although there are undoubtedly quotas that need to be met. What happens after they meet that magical number, is anyone's guess.

So really they're saying it take 10 days to assess the sponsor, but about 40-50 days to get round to assessing the sponsor.

When you really think about it...it shouldn't even take 10 days to assess the sponsor.

There's not much for them to check!

Seems definitely like a streamlined process. 10 days for SA which is included in the 18 months is good news - we had to wait 90 days for SA
and take 18 months to fully process seems and of course it means they would be working extra quick to move files along.

I am also confused on the "Applications received after the maximum has been met may have to wait longer to be processed." statement.

I suppose so, for Outland applicants.

It makes you wonder how the split for Inland applicants works out now. It was 18 months + 10 months, but now it's just combined into 26 months.

I doubt that new applications sent in will get their SA in 10 days. What will happen is that it means 10 days from AOR, which will still take 50 days or whatever. I imagine there will be a lot of people who will be expecting to hear from the CIC within two weeks of sending of their application and will be ringing their 'helpline'
