Guys,
Lets setup a facebook group and send out the join link.
I setup the petition last year and we only got 130 signatures on it..
We can all draft an email to send to Olivia an CC everyone's email address.
I or one of us can call her office and setup a meeting/townhall type gathering to discuss what we can do to protest.
Lets start with a Facebook group so we can see how many active members we can get to help in our protest.

I don't know how effective these petitions are, but it doesn't hurt to take part in them. We need to show solidarity with numbers andwe need to tell the government that if they want our vote, they need to listen.

Some options for helping our cause:

* Letters\Emails\Faxes to Canadian Politicians
* Letters to Pakistani Officials to boost security and cooperation with Canada(Canadian government blames the security situation in Pakistan for the delays)
* Organized Street Protests
* Emails\letters\Faxes to Canadian Media (i.e. Newspapers)
* Petitions

It doesn't matter what route we take, we need to stick together.

28 months is ridiculous. No one made any noise when they moved it from 10 months to 14 months to 22 months to 26 months..
We have to make an effort. How many people are willing to meetup at a location like timmy'z in Mississauga/Toronto nxt saturday?
I will make the effort to come out so that we can collectively draft a plan of action.
Even if its a handful of people, qatra qatra samundar...

Hi guys, count me in as well....

I would recommend organizing something in Toronto instead of Ottawa because there are more chances of ppl meeting up in Toronto(GTA) then in OTTAWA.

I found an online petition which may also help our cause:

You should start gathering everyone in Ottawa.
Calgary guys should start getting together down there.
Montreal guys, start getting together down there.

Lets start with pockets of across Canada. Start getting together email addresses and contact details of people who are willing to come out. If we can setup a protest of 100+ people in GTA alone, infront of city hall, i guarantee we will get TV coverage and attention from the media..
We need to hit the soft spot of the decision makers/media/politicians, we need to discuss how these timelines are an infringement of our basic civil rights, and how they are causing the breakdown of our families. Bring up cases which ended in divorces due to CIC's ridiculous timelines.

Lets get this grassroots movement started

The best place will be Ottawa that is were recently people protested against slowness in Ottawa http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5gWxGbYxcCqytRvSERc4gL58EULpw?docId=CNG.712bac5a2e36c5ab3750c50d4058c01b.441

We need to do same so that it shows more people are concerned. I can make a temporary webpage if it is needed. I am new in Canada (Montreal) so I don't know Pakistani communities, so if there are any Pakistani organization get them involved and lets protest in large numbers in the Capital.

I think we should do whatever we can. And this is the issue faced by OSPS so I think Pakistani government must play a part in resolving it. just my point.

I can't really talk for Pakistan cause I am Afghan, but knowing that we come from similar governments I guess pakistan can neither do anything nor would bother to help us. But if we gather as a group and do a protest in Canada then they might do something cause it's CA government's responsibility.

It would be a good idea to invite members of other communities to any organized petition. Here are the top 7 countries whose waiting period is close to 2 or more years:

Country Current Wait times
Kenya 29
Pakistan 28
Singapore 26
Guatemala 25
Senegal 23
South Africa 23
Abu Dhabi 22

Great idea, Agreed.

Hello everyone,

If we do not stand up united against this injustice done by CIC, we shall be sitting in the dark and who knows till when. The government is forgetting that only in Ontario, we have about 50,000 Pakistanis living and paying taxes and becoming an asset for their economy. However, on the other end, people who get married and start their family are suffering from the long waiting times to bring their Wife/Husband here in Canada. Moreover, this results in sometime breaking up the relationships and more stress between couple. Therefore, i request all of you to come forward, so together we can raise a voice against this mental torture, which we all are going through and eager to bring our loved one here with us.

Now, i reside in Mississauga and if someone is interested to sit down and work on a draft or some strategy from which we can arrange a peaceful protest in front of CityHall or even write a letter with all our signatures to Jason Kenney, you are most welcome to let me know. Together we can make this happen because this is our Right to be with our partner soon, while we are citizens of Canada.

Thank you for your attention.

does this new timeline applies to everyone or the new applicants? my file was sent to Mississauga for stage 1 around 23rd January.

Timelines are determined from historic data.
Our timelines will be determined by what CIC does this year.
However, the new set of timelines are a good indicator of how long it will take, i.e longer than before.

Sure, I am up for anything. Its just that I am from Calgary area so we cant really launch a protest here. I believe mostly people are from Toronto so they should go ahead with the peaceful protest.
Hey waiting110, I am an Albertan as well. Glad to know someone from my neck of the woods

Finally .. I think I remember reading someone else's post that hes from Calgary NE. What area are you from?
You guys when you are done drafting your email/letter .. send it to us as well and we will sign and forward from Calgary too.

And I LOVE the idea of asking other people to join in, this will just make us more strong.
How is it fair to us? We live here, pay taxes its our right to call our spouses!

Naheed Nenshi is brown .. you guys think if we contact him - is he going to help us? I dnt think so. My MP is Indian, so hes beekar! Why would he wanna help a Pakistani man!

Its very sad to say but, Brown person tends to screw other brown person compared to others... so not a good idea..
