Salam to all. Hope your Ramadan is going well.
I have only recently joined this form & have been reading through this forum & the chc-I 2011-2012 forum.
My situation is probably different than the norm; I'm a CDN citizen living in GTA trying to sponsor my soon to be wife who's from KHI, PK.
Our relationship has developed over the last 5yrs & with the help of almighty Allah we're getting married in Aug 2012 after Eid inshAllah!
We have decided to perfom all rituals/ceremonies to make ease for sponsorship.
Nikaah, Shaadi & Walima will all be held next month after Eid (iA) with both our families present.
The 'difference' I was talking about however Is the fact that my soon to be wife has recently changed her legal name (last year).
Does anyone have, or herd of, any experiences with dealing with a similar situation to mine. Where the sponsor had a recent name change?
Most of her documents show the old name, however she will make a new NIC ID & all the Shaadi cards are in her new name.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
For starters, make sure you take lots of photographs @ all the wedding events, with close family members, guests, etc
Keep tickets, boarding passes, etc for evidence of travel to Pk for your whole family. Take photographs.
Ensure that the marriage certificate is in English, and anything that's not in Urdu is certified/translated. (english nikahnama is available)
Get her to change her NIC into English one......or better yet, and apply for NICOP as soon as marriage is done.
Have her apply and obtain her passport right now, to save time....some spouses don't bother changing names after all documents are in same name to save time and confusion.....then do name change in Canada, if necessary. I don't find it necessary, but upto you.
Obtain all/any birth or other certificates, educational documents attested or certified, etc. Obtain transcripts from college/university.
Obtain police certificate from local police authority.....its good for 6 months so get it now, should be good after aug when you return to file the application.....
Have her complete some English language courses......so she can find it easier to communicate in English, etc.
Have her look at the IMM forms, so she can start filling them out, and document her personal history, educationl, etc
Takes about a month or so for medical appointment, have her do the medical ASAP.
