I am Canadian citizen and my fiancé is American. She is pregnant and we are expecting a baby in Novrmber. We are currently apart which is making things difficult and I will like to seek advice on some thoughts and options:
Option 1: I would like her to give birth in Canada as I work and reside here and will certainly be present during child birth. But I am also worried about potential cost from a complicated pregnancy after having read about the million dollar Australian baby. There may be other operations to perform.
I was wondering if it is remotely possible to file for immigration and get an Ontario Health card before November if I do this in July.
Option 2: have baby in US and start working towards US immigration. Not very good for me as I have to take time off to fly there and will need to come back home to work. I am on contractor so every day matters. This option is attractive due to the potential cost but it hurts family dynamics even though she has siblings and a support system with her down South. I am also generally concerned about her current condition without me besides her.
Option 3: have baby in US and she comes up to Canada after baby is born so we can raise the family here until she is ready to go back to work in the US. In this case I’ll file for Canadian immigration after baby is here.
I don’t have a million dollars so the option of cost associated with a complicated pregnancy, although preferred for selfish reasons is scary to say the least. But it’s my preferred approach.
Unfortunately I was advised against conjugal but thinking in retrospect we should have given this a shot as my divorce papers have been delayed by months.
What would you guys do?
