Hi i'm planing to sponsor my wife that lives in Sri Lanka. I'm actually living with her right now for more than 4 years since getting married. i didn't want to get her back to Canada right away because she was to attached to her parents at that time. from what i read i know that there's no financial requirement for Canadian citizens sponsoring there spouse. I'm currently residing in Sri Lanka so will sponsor her while staying back. i didn't have the opportunity to have a wedding yet,but the marriage is legal and registered according to the Sir Lankan Law. because of family issues i came to Sri Lanka to live with her.

i know that i need to prove that i will be back in Canada once my spouse receives her PR. my parents are the once who will be supporting me and we will be living with them while i get a job. is that enough proof to provide to immigration.

to prove that I'm legally married i have my Marriage certificate, phone cards and letters of each others.is that good enough.

if theirs anything else can someone please shed some lite on this situation thank you.

As you are a Canadian citizen you can sponsor your spouse while you reside in an other country but you have to prove the CHC that you will settle in Canada once your souse get the PR. to do that you have to show your ties in Canada such as own apartment, job, or bank statement ect... make sure to read the information availabe in cic website.

because I've been living out side the country for almost 4 years, i haven't had any transaction during that time. so is it ok to give in the bank statement.and statement has to show my previous transaction right.will that be enough.

what about co signers do they check there income as well. if my parents sign and if there income is low will that be problem.

Hello Gayan,

From my limited knowledge I do not think you can have your parents as a co-sponsor..the best place to check will be the CIC website. xxx.cic.gc.ca

Apart from the letters you will also have to submit photos anything that you can get your hands on to show that your relationship is genuine..it is better to be safe than sorry..there is no limit to the information (proof) you can submit...the key is to ensure the information you submit will CONVINCE the VISA office that the relationship is genuine...

As for where you will settle, you probably can get letters from your parents saying that you will be staying with them when you are in Canada.....

Hopefully this will help...but again the best place to go for information is the CIC website...

So in that case if i get a letter from my parents saying that i will be living with them then i wouldn't need a bank statement right under my name.

there's a few more questions i would like to ask regarding this matter.

1) from what i remember i don't really need a co-signer right.
2) after my wife receives her PR do i have to be in canada on the day that they proved me.
3) How long does the sponsorship take if I'm out of the country. i read somewhere that it will be much quicker if the person sponsoring is living out side the country is that right.
4) everything has to be handed into the case processing center in Mississauga.

That's all for now. thank you.

Well I was hoping that a senior member will answer the first question for you... i.e bank statement..I think you might still need to show proof to confirm your intentions.. as for the rest..

1. You do not need to have a co-signer..
2. You need to speak to the SL embassy and ask for an extention...you will need to show solid proof as to why you need it.. if not you need to be in Canada before the VISA expires
3. I am not sure..normally it will take about 1-2 months in Canada and then another 6-14 months in SL for the process..
4. The application will need to be mailed to the CIC office in Missi..make sure you send the application through a method that you can track..i.e. you know when it is recieved by CIC...

hope this helps..
