We are currently waiting for COPR which should be coming soon. Once we get this, its my understanding that the PR card can take quite some time to arrive. We have a wedding to go to in England in May. If my husband has "landed" but doesnt have the actual PR card yet, can he still travel?

Yes if husband is holding a visa exempted passport, he can use it with his COPR to return Canada. Otherwise, he need to apply a travel document from the Canadian embassy in UK.

Also - PR cards time is going down, right now it's 33 days, so you might actually have the card before you go out of Canada again.
If your husband is from a visa-exempt country, he can leave Canada and travel on his passport, and when he gets back in, just let the immigration officer that he is a PR ( and they will be able to check it at the border).
If he is not visa-exempt, then contact your embassy and get a "travel document" to make sure he can get back to Canada.
Good luck,

It would be much better to have the PR card, as the process to obtain a travel document is quite annoying, i.e. more paperwork to submit, time, expense, etc...

Assuming he holds an Australian passport, he should be fine travelling without PR card. Australia is visa-exempt to Canada, meaning there is no special visa requirement to fly here. After my fiancee "landed" in Canada and we were waiting for PR card, we left the country and returned no problem.

When returning to Canada, the Australian passport and COPR paper will be fine for the immigration officer here.

However one tip, when you are at the England airport returning to Canada, don't tell them about PR status. Many overseas airports do not know what a COPR document is, the only thing they are trained for is the actual PR card. You should simply tell them he is travelling as a tourist to Canada which is fine on his visa-exempt passport. There have been some stories on this site, about airlines in some USA cities demanding to see a return airplane ticket before allowing someone to board. Though i think these are very isolated incidents and you shouldn't worry. Worst case you would just buy a fully refundable return ticket on the spot, and then just return it.

you get your copr you land in canada without problem because it is the only doc needed, no need for pr card for you to get in and out canda since you are in an exempt coutry, they wil not even put a visa in your passport at the visa office since your are exmpted, but give an address to collect your visa card in canada
