It seems that my file went into 'IN PROCESS' July 26th because CPP-Ottawa looked into my file on my MP's request.

Here is what I got from my MP:

I received some information from the Minister's Office recently on your file (some of which you may know already).

At any rate, the file is currently open and in process at the Ottawa CPP-Pilot Processing Centre. Most eligibility items (e.g. medicals) have been passed; however, background checks are still in process as per the last entry on the file which was last month (7/26).

As background checks are handled by outside agencies, it's tough to get an exact idea of how much longer it may take but they did suggest that I follow-up with them directly in the fall (you may hear something in the meantime; if you do, please let me know).

Once the background checks have been passed, our office will be in a position to further assist the file through to completion.

WHY IS IT TAKING SO LONG FOR PAKISTANI APPLICANTS ????? :o

thanks for sharing the info

So it is clear that In Process means Background checks are still pending.

For certain nationalities, background checks are done after going to In Process. Thats why for some people its ultra fast after In Process but for some it gets stuck in Background Checks.

It was correct before and it is correct now. It's just the way of writing it in different styles. A good example would be writing dates. Now the address looks more Canadian and less American!

Oh Well..

For certain nationalities BG checks are from one day to two weeks and for some it is from 2 to 8 months..

In Process usually means when your eligibility is passed.

In Process meaning depend on where you applied, for inland applicants In Process means all checks are done including the medical (that's why when file goes in process for inland applicants it always says "Medical Results received" with in it) except the BG checks and for overseas it means only eligibility is passed.

For Inland applicants..In Process means eligibility is passed and that can only be passed once all checks are done.

So, we got 3 PPR this week and I guess that is it for this week. I hope to see some come through next week! Fingers Crossed!! :)

Nope thats not true, Eligibility means you are eligible for the program you applied for PR nothing more than that.

No sir, all i know through MP is VO is assigned on my case and they have sent the case for background verification to my home country. I have no idea how long that will take..

Why do they send the background verification to the home country when we have submitted our police clearance? Anyone has the idea how this works. In some countries administrations are very bureaucratic and this will take months after months to get any information out of them.

What I am saying is this ... Eligibility is based just on you qualifying for the program BUT it gets marked passed once the background checks are done.

Your eligibility has already been completed when you applied PNP! Again In Process also depends which VO is marking your case.

Yup thats true your eligibility is done by Province but that was part of PNP application and CIC doe it too regardless. Here is the flow of activities for inland applicants:

1. Eligibility (very straightforward process for PNP applicants but they don't skip the step, they still go through your documents depending on VO)

2. If 1 passed, Criminality check started ("File Received" status at this stage)
2.1 Provided police clearance certificate verification
2.2 local police check
2.3 RCMP screening.

3. If 2. passed they sent Medical Request.

4. if 3. passed they change the status of file as "In Process" and "Medical results received with in it.

hope it helps

I guess we are saying the same thing but in a different way...

So are you saying CIC will RE-DO Eligibity process again for PNP?...NO they DON'T!
What they do is your MEDICAL & CRIMINALITY/SECURITY checks!!!
There is a division of labor in all these....Why they will PNP do eligibility if CIC are going
to re-do it again...Please check the PNP website again!!!

Just got an email from Ottawa just letting me know they cant provide me with a status update, which I asked nearly 2 months ago.. Got me excited for a minute though!!! :D

No, they dont do eligibility verification again they look at the documents to make sure they are in order and thats it. They do not verify anything as this has already been done.
