Hello Everyone,

I just received eMail with BOWP approval.

Applied on 3rd Oct 2013

Approved on 31st Oct 2013

Current Work Permit expiring On 3rd Jan 2014

AOR on 2nd Oct 2013

Thx

Congrats :)
I applied on oct 1 so hopefully mine will come through soon!

question...all these is required for the OPWB is just the application, checklist, employment letter (or contract), current copy of work permit, and AOR (i'm guessing a screen shot of the approval?)

do you need anything else? i.e. passport photos?

it seems weird to have such a simple package..usually cic likes to torture us with their requirements!

Hi All

My manager had sent me an email as below. Can this be used while applying BOWP? My current WP is valid for more than 4 months. I was asked to go back to my home country because my contract is ending in December.

Thanks and regards,
Kunishsa

Well, this is good Email would really make impact to your case for BOWP, but such one liner would not be good. Please have Email "like" below and make sure few people (like Senior Manager/ Client Manager) are copied so that it wont look like created specially for this purpose.

Hi,....

I would like to appreciate you for ****** work. Please be informed that your current project (***************) is getting ended on so and so date after which you are required to go back to <country>. As you are aware that you are not allowed to work at other location/designation due to type of your work permit (LMO) that you are holding. Make a note that You will be reporting to Mr _____ at <location>.

Let us know if you heard any news about your PR Application. Thanks a lot again for your good work and keep it up !!

Also, don't submit your application on the same day you get Email. Wait for some 8/10 days and then submit the application. Also, you need very good explanation letter to support this and also good blessing from your friends :). If you have offer letter from other company, that would also make impact although not 100% required.

Finally received the hard copy of my work permit, a full two weeks after it was approved.

Hi Bhavik

Thanks a lot for your reply.

I am not sure if my manager will send me another email. I will give a try one more time to be specific about the country I am travelling back. In our case my Employer's presence is only in two countries Canada and India. That could be the reason he has not mentioned anything specific. I might need to live with what he had sent. Also how funny would it be to ask him to appreciate me for my own work :)

Thanks a lot once again.

Cheers,
Kunishsa

I have a trip planned - from the current paper application timelines (don't get me started), it looks like I'll find out about my BOWP before leaving, but the permit might arrive in the mail while I'm away.

This means when I come back through Canadian customs, the permit will be at my house, but I won't have it on me.

I'm from a visa-exempt country.

When I return, can I count on explaining this to the border official? "You may be allowed to come back to Canada as a worker, if the officer at the port of entry finds out that CIC extended your work permit while you were away" (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?q=190&t=17)

I'm in the same boat. And already talked to someone who did the same. He left Canada, his current work permit expired while outside of Canada, BOWP got approved while he was outside of Canada, he printed the confirmation email from CIC that the BOWP was in the mail and on the way to his Canadian address and took this letter along to the boarder and showed the officer.
That should be proof enough, as they can look up your UCI and see that the BOWP has been issued and mailed.

The CIC website states processing times for Work Permit online apps as 26 days (updated Oct 30th). Has anyone received their approvals in 26 days? Just curious.

I applied for BOWP on 11th Sep Oct 2013 and waiting anxiously for it.

You should call CIC - they are now working on applications from sept 28 and people from Oct 1 and oct 3 have been approved. I am also waiting - I applied Oct 1 but can't call as they will tell me to wait but you should as your date has passed

Old WP Valid until Jan 31, 2014.
