Let be positive, the processing time will be shorter under current rule so no reason why we need C6, it will be a disaster they approve it now since backlog will be huge and processing time will be a few years as before C24. I think you want to get citizenship to move to USA as soon as possible right? but with Trump there he will kill nafta and TN visa for Canadian passport holder so why hurry?hmirzaei said:Gyus I am hopeless and unfortunately it is going to affect my life too badly... is there any hope or this is seriously dead? Good you've met her, this is a vague answer.... you were could ask her: what is the problem though?punk said:Met with a Conservative Senator today. She said bill will be passed, not a problem. Probably this year before they go on break next month.
Stop with the fear mongering of Trump tearing up NAFTA. He is targeting Mexico of the agreement. If anything being done, worst case, Trump negotiate the agreement with Mexico out of the picture or with conditions that Mexico won't sign on.deerestlovelybear said:Let be positive, the processing time will be shorter under current rule so no reason why we need C6, it will be a disaster they approve it now since backlog will be huge and processing time will be a few years as before C24. Just like JT's promise of repealing c24, which still hasn't happened after a year and nobody knows if it is ever going to happen, trump's promise about NAFTA would be similardeerestlovelybear said:Let be positive, the processing time will be shorter under current rule so no reason why we need C6, it will be a disaster they approve it now since backlog will be huge and processing time will be a few years as before C24. I don't think Trump and Americans in general have an issue with Canadians working there under TN visa. The number is not significant compared to other immigration, and in most cases Canadians are working for either a company that originally hired them in Canada, or in a position requiring a lot of expertise and knowledge, so not the typical average Joe job, i.e. not 'stealing' jobs as some like to say. I agree with screech339, that Trump's focus is on Mexico since they clearly benefit from NAFTA more than the US and Canada.screech339 said:Stop with the fear mongering of Trump tearing up NAFTA. I do not think the bill is dead, I am not sure where this is coming from. I do think it will be amended though before any further progress. Can you elaborate more how it will affect your life too badly please? I hope we can provide you some useful advice. The folks on here are very knowledgeable of immigration aspects.hmirzaei said:Gyus I am hopeless and unfortunately it is going to affect my life too badly... is there any hope or this is seriously dead? I do not want to sound negative, but it is pointless talking to a Conservative Senator. Regardless of what they think about C-6, they feel obliged to take the Cons side on the matter, and vote as a party rather than individuals. If asked in person, they'll tell you anything you want to hear, and be as vague as possible. I hope someone can ask an independent Senator instead, they might be more open and honest about the matter.spiritsoul said:Good you've met her, this is a vague answer.... you were could ask her: what is the problem though?
BTW, there is only 4 weeks left till the winter break!!!
Americans have no issues with TN visa with Canada. TN visa is to america's advantage. Not to Canadians working on TN themselves. US government will get all the income tax paid that Canadians on TN will never get to claim (ie social security benefits, social benefits). Canadians on TN are only helping US economy, nothing more and in return, looks good on resume.marcher said:I don't think Trump and Americans in general have an issue with Canadians working there under TN visa. He is the Representative of the Government in the Senate; so he basically echos the government's answers and the senators' questions. He would surely be a good person to contact if he responds. I still think Omidvar is the one who might know when this bill will be addressed next since based on her last comments, it appears she might be involved with amending it. The sad fact though is that she does not respond to emails or any other form of correspondence. I hope she did not forget about the Bill!subha_1962 said:Heard that the bill is still being is being worked on and contact person is Senator Peter Harder. All interested please tweet and email him
Thanks subhasubha_1962 said:Please see the reply I had from Senator Harder just now and please contact him and Senator Eaton as he suggests. ( I mean all those who are keen to see this through)
Thank you for your email. I appreciate the circumstances you face and the desire to have C-6 passed as quickly as possible. I certainly share your wish that this bill pass before Christmas. Senator Omidvar is sponsoring this bill in the Senate and is working tirelessly to advance this bill. Unfortunately, I have to acknowledge that there are some in the senate who are slowing down the process of senate consideration. We will use every effort possible to advance this bill but I cannot assure you that we will succeed before Christmas. I would encourage you to contact senator Eaton, the Conservative critic of the bill and ask that this bill be passed before Christmas.
Warm regards, P.
I'm afraid this won't help with Eaton; Cons. will never change their stand.subha_1962 said:We should write to Senator Eaton and can say that we share some of her concerns re - terrorism etc, but that we are all genuine residents of this country and that we were so unfairly affected by bill C 24 - especially those of us who got our PR earlier and that it is a second class citizenship which goes against the very nature of being a Canadian. I don't know these are my thoughts, from the email from Senator Harder what I gathered is that the bill could be delayed but can't be forgotten
