@spyfy can you tell about May 3, what is this date for??

Just to confirm this: As expected, there is now an amendment being proposed to keep the revocation of Citizenship from terrorists etc.

It is unlikely that they will vote on this today. It can therefore be expected that the agreed upon date, May 3rd, remains when we should expect more.

The is an oral non-binding (!!) agreement between senators to finish bill C-6 by May 3rd.

Debate has been adjourned.

This means there will be no updates until the Senate sits again on May 1 or May 2.

For those who celebrate it, happy easter. For the others, have a nice weekend and rest of April.

Could this be the last amendment to be introduced? what they will introduce more amendments?

Can they keep introducing amendments or the speaker also can reject all amendments and decide to be read for the 3rd time?

According to Senator Jaffer, this was last amendment which she remember but who knows conservatives can introduce more amendments

Yes, they could keep introducing amendments for all eternity. No one knows how many amendments there will be. We can only wait and see.

@spyfy Do you have any idea if lets suppose the HOC returns the bill to Senate arguing on some clauses, would Senate is bound to debate only on those clauses or they can introduce more amendments even at that time as well??

They can even amend the name to be C-6 (+18) as they are trying to screw us all

Sorry, i know this is not a fact, have a great holidays everyone

Thanks spyfy for today's update.

Also thanks to _MK_ for posting updates/summaries of earlier sittings.

And finally thanks to all the users of this thread who have tried to maintain the spirit of the thread by sticking to facts only.

Will check back in this thread in May on the next Senate sitting date. Have a great weekend!

April 13th proceedings summary:

- Speaker ruled that proposed amendment that affects residency by Senator Eaton is not Out of Order.
- Senate chamber voted on amendment. Amendment failed 28-51(?). So we are back 3/5 with no 183 day requirement.
- New amendment proposed by another Conservative senator.
-- Adds ability to take away citizenship as a form of punishment for terrorism. However victim can appeal.
- Adjourned.

Next Steps:
- Debate on this amendment in May. I expect this to be quite fierce as this was one of main points of this bill.
- Vote on amendment.
- More debate on entire bill c6. Although there is every chance of new amendments to be introduced, I do not think it will happen. Just an educated guess.
- Final debate will not be long if no further amendment is proposed. Major debate will already have taken place for terrorism amendment. They will vote and send bill to HoC.
- If terrorism amendment is shot down, bill should pass HoC easily. Expect late May/June. If not, it is anyone's guess as this was one of the major promises of Trudeau government and they will have to decide whether it is worth fighting for or not.

Please check back on May and refrain from speculating in this thread.

Here is the next senate sitting on May 2. C-6 is now the first bill to be discussed, there is no C-4 anymore.

So lets send now our tax returns to the CRA, start collecting citizenship application documents, study Discover Canada, and enter the numbers into the residency calculator.

And a some tweets to the conservative senators, like: We are watching you; would be appropriate.
