At this point, I hope the announce the date soon before half of us pass out from stress lol! My personal guess is Dec

Hopefully! :'(

It's a big bill and some of the changes are easier to implement than others, so just to add to the stress/fun I wouldn't be surprised it the various sections don't get implemented on different dates.

Guys, great news! I just called CIC call center and the gentleman on the other side said bill C-24 is a large bill and different elements come into effect on different dates. However, the residency requirement becomes effective one year from the date the bill is passed (so probably July 1st, 2015).

I believe CIC employees must know the correct information regarding the implementation details. I can`t say how happy I am to hear this and I wanted to share my happiness with everyone ;D

I Wish ... but I doubt .
i will be qualified on Jan 28 2015 , I think I don't have a chance . I was counting days to finish , iam A PR since summer 2009 Imagine , and what delayed me was because first my mother got very sick and I am the only son to stand with her a year after my goes into live failure and doctor's said he need a surgery a liver transplant , and I went to stand with him again , thanks god for everything iam not sorry because I did the right thing towards my parents , and with this law I will have another 3 years , so 2009 - 2017 = 8 Years if process time foes under 1 year .

What ever you did is the right thing, parents life is more important than citizenship.

Citizenship you can get in the future, but parents life, love and affection you wont get it.

Best of luck for your future. :)

I still think there is a good chance the Law will come into force January 1st 2015. If you compare it to Act 1977 and Act 2008, they took a year to come into force (So theoretically, July 1st 2015 will be a year after the expected Royal Assent) .. so if the same scenario happens with this Bill it might be possible .. however I dont think they will wait a year for it as they want to reduce the backlog asap.

Anyways we will know in a matter of 10 days.

Family and Personal life have higher priorities my friend ... Citizenship is always a matter of time as long as you are planning to stay.

There is no substitute for parents. Good job. I am in similar situation and got PR in 2008 and was thinking to apply in December 2014. But no worries, whatever is in destiny.

I think you make the right choice, what you already achieved is far more than achieving a Canadian passport, hats off for the son like you.

Looks like Conservatives are fast tracking Bill C-24.

PETER VAN LOAN:

On Thursday, February 27th, That afternoon, we will start second reading debate on Bill C-24, the strengthening Canadian Citizenship Act. This bill represents the first comprehensive overhaul of Canada's citizenship laws in a generation.

>:(

It seems that many people here are concerned about the new Act, when it is passed. I scanned the new provisions, and they seem to make citizenship more difficult to obtain for those who committed offences or lied on their applications. Why would these be a problem?

It prolongs the time required to apply for citizenship to 4 years without regard to any time previously spent in Canada. Naturally, there are some good provisions in this bill, which make the institution of citizenship more serious. However, the other provisions, which stigmatize "immigrant citizens" from "citizens" is despicable...
