Guys, great news! I just called CIC call center and the gentleman on the other side said bill C-24 is a large bill and different elements come into effect on different dates. However, the residency requirement becomes effective one year from the date the bill is passed (so probably July 1st, 2015).

I believe CIC employees must know the correct information regarding the implementation details. I can`t say how happy I am to hear this and I wanted to share my happiness with everyone ;D

how's about when we call in, we record the phone conversation and apply for citizenship accordingly. if CIC refuses to process, we bring them to court telling the judge, see, a representative from this department gave me instruction on how to apply so CIC must be held responsible. Call center agents can't just say any bullshit things without being challenged. The whole system seems to be a joke.

During the senate's second reading yesterday, the senators were opposed to the controversial parts of the bill (such as revocation without court proceedings). Why didn't they amend anything then ? Don't they have the power ?

All the talk about lawsuits and the Supreme Court are not realistic. First of all, filing a lawsuit would cost many thousands of dollars. Anyone here have that much money to spend? Secondly, cases take years to resolve. By the time the judgment was rendered, you would have had your 4 years in. While I think that the Supreme Court will eventually rule some of C-24 (specifically the power to strip dual citizens of their Canadian citizenship) unconstitutional, that won't come anytime soon.

No man they don't thats the problem .. Conservatives can do whatever you want. All these amendments were proposed in the commitee meeting yesterday night and they were rejected.

Yes, they have the power, but it's majority rule. The Conservatives are in the majority and individual senators vote the way their leaders tells them to.

Guys, do you forget something call " ministerial instruction ".
The minister can pretty much do a lots of things without consent from parliament.
so lets just wait for his announcement

When we were meeting Cons MPs regarding pre-pr time (April-May), they said they expected new rules to come in force this fall. I don't think anything has changed on their side.

On our side, I'd really love to see zero Cons MPs from GTA after the next elections. I believe, that's the only thing we can have some influence on.
