I bet CIC is monitoring this thread to watch for public reaction so they can plan for next move.

Generally speaking,I am only 35 days far to fulfill citizenship application requirements. I intended to reside in Canada,(I have been here from the day zero of my landing day).If they pass the bill,I have no worries and I will apply next year or the year after. The bill itself doesn't bother me at all.If I were in CIC shoes and read this posts,I may think of bunch of Hit-and-Run people are gossiping here!(No offence)

Technically speaking,Citizenship is not a right nor privileged!(That long run debated issue solved!)

If I could think in this way,I may plan for my future in Canada as a law abide citizen. It's better to use our potentials to upgrade ourselves slowly rather being in tension and anxiety! Be optimists!

they can easily reduce the backlog by removing all the CJs and not even needing to make the residency changes sooner.

Bill C-24 has passed House and Senate within 2 to 3 weeks,

"This shows the urgency and importance of the bill to the government."

I seriously doubt that they are going to wait till January 2015.

My best bet, it will become law in 2 to 3 months, at the max.

Amendments got rejected already!

That was in the "pre-study"!

The bill has been referred by the Senate to the Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology just yesterday June 17th

The Meeting took place yesterday and I watched it live .. all the amendments got rejected.

Thats it basically .. Third reading will take place sometime soon (Maybe Tomorrow) then Royal Assent.

What matters now .. when this bill will come into force.

I think there is a difference between amendments and observations. Observations may not be binding but to highlight the point.

Believe so.

Guys, great news! I just called CIC call center and the gentleman on the other side said bill C-24 is a large bill and different elements come into effect on different dates. However, the residency requirement becomes effective one year from the date the bill is passed (so probably July 1st, 2015).

I believe CIC employees must know the correct information regarding the implementation details. I can`t say how happy I am to hear this and I wanted to share my happiness with everyone ;D

Dun think so. CIC call center agent wouldnt be knowing this specific information.
For the past 8 years, the conservative government show up that they always have to press the "pause" button to clear their own mess! They have done it way many times. I wouldnt count on the implementation takes that long. July 1st is a reasonable assumption.

Not to burst anyones bubble (myself included) but I have spoken to a couple different CIC agents in the last couple weeks (including today and earlier this week). As would be expected, they have no idea when it is coming into effect. Even if they did know, they would not be able to say what the implementation would be until it was announced. I'm sure some higher up people know whats going to happen, but not the front line call center people. As much as I would love for that to be true (and it could be, but no way of knowing for sure), I would be more likely to believe they are tired of people calling and made that up.
