Ottawa received my passport since September 10th 2013 so I am looking towards next weekend to get them back. by visa exempt country, it means those applicants don't require a visa to enter Canada. cic need only the photocopy of their passport and not the actual passport, so their process is faster hope this helps. :)

Dear ujbaby,

I have a valid Canadian multiple-entry visa in my passport, does it mean I can ask Ottawa to return my passport? I have made a request to them already because I need it for an appointment in two weeks.

I don't know for sure, but from what I understood, a TRV that you have, and a PR visa that they want to put in your passport are not the same.
Logically yes, since you already have a visa, they could just give you your COPR, but technically I think they are still going to ask for your passport and will put a PR visa there. Let us know if you find out more or if CIC responds somehow to your request and your circumstances.

PR visa is different from the visitor visa. Pr visa is only a one time entry visa issued for pr applicants. You may have to wait till you get the passport back.

my ecas show decision made 3 days after passport request. I sent out our passports because CIC requested for them( me and my dependants) we require visa to land in Canada as immigrants just like everyone else. we are not from visa exempt country. it doesn't matter if ur presently living in Canada or not. u must do it if ur not from visa exempt country. remember, u have to leave and re-enter Canada b4 becoming a pr holder or landed immigrant. u need visa to re-enter Canada if u leave. u cannot land inside Canada. hope this helps :)

agree with yahoo, it is entirely different visa and they stamp permanent resident on it.

I am not sure what their response will be. u only need to be patient and wait for them to respond :)

Thanks everyone for replies. I thought PR was a different visa :(
When I shipped my passport I thought almost 4 weeks would be enough to process it. Right now I just want to get my passport back, otherwise my vaca is majorly screwed ???
