A friend of mine (also from Vancouver) passed his test on Aug 16, had it marked completed on Aug 17 and just got his DM today (2wks later).

No DM for me yet. But I'm trying not to get too greedy!

I see in my ECAS that I have to take my online citizenship test b/w Sep 9 and 30, 2021 and instructions will follow in an email.

My question is does the email come a day before the above duration?

I sent my paper based application in April 2020 and AOR is October 2021.

Email might come as close as 2 days(depends on the officer set it out for the invite). But luckily we dont need to wait for the email to give test since the link is open to all. All we need is to know is the schedule in which we can just go ahead and take the test in a day within those 21 days.
Start preparing for the test without worrying about the email.

Not heard if they post the test update in ease before the test. Also most wont even getting post test update on ecas.

The dashboard should be your primary application status tool. Several stuff that is updated on the dashboard will not be updated on ECAS. Also, if you get an Oath notification (Oath -> In Progress and In Progress -> Scheduled), you'll only see this information on the dashboard and not on ECAS.

There isn't one that is "faster" - for statuses that are common to both ECAS and the dashboard, both get updated around the same time.

I could not categorize it as greed since lot many applied months after you are at post DM/Oath.
Its reasonable to expect DM/Oath.

yup. Feb Mar 2022 possibly. But can also be earlier depending on location

I think it's within 4 months until oath is scheduled. But the scheduled date itself maybe after 6 months after that.

thats frustrating........I know ppl who applied a way earlier and no test invite
