Just got my oath letter yesterday to appear on the 29th of August for the ceremony.

Hello everyone!

I applied my citizenship april 2018.

Here’s my timeline:

Received Application: April 30, 2018
AOR : June 15, 2018
IP: July 19, 2018

And that’s it

I tried to call CIC last June, they said my file was transferred to Scarborough last May 25, 2019.

No more update since then.

So last Monday I went to MP nearby and got response from CIC:

• The application was received at the Case Processing Centre in Sydney, Nova Scotia, on April 30, 2018.

• The application was considered complete and an acknowledgement letter was sent to your constituent on June 15, 2018.
  • If they have not received this letter and are between the ages of 14 to 64, they can find the guide here.

• The application is considered non-routine due to the following reason:
  • the file is under review because it requires further verifications. Rest assured that the responsible office will inform your constituent, if they have to provide further details.
• The security and criminality verifications are currently valid.
• The file was transferred to the Scarborough IRCC office for continued processing of the application. This office will schedule an appointment for your constituent in due course.
• Because the application is non-routine, there is no specific processing time to finalize it. Rest assured that all efforts are being made to ensure efficient processing of the application.
  • Should your constituent need to travel using a commercial carrier during this time, they should ensure they hold a valid permanent resident card.”

At this time there is no processing time for your application as it is considered non-routine. You can follow up with our office in 3 months’ time should you not have any new information.


Wondering why my application went to non-routine

It’s really frustrating when you keep on waiting for so long :’(

Has anyone here waited for longer than 16 months to get their Citizenship Test invite?

My application has been in process since April 18, 2018 and while calling to the Immigration Office they say that its just in process and I have to wait. I called them 10 times already and they say it’s “in process”.
It's quite frustrating and I don't know what to do.

Contacted MP and his response was same as above....
MP cannot force ircc for expediting the process...

Any news yet ? Mine is 16 months and counting ...

2. We sent you correspondence acknowledging receipt of your application(s), and a study book called Discover Canada on June 1, 2018.
3. We started processing your application on July 12, 2018.
4. We sent you correspondence on September 25, 2018. If you have not yet provided the information or the requested documents, please do so as soon as possible. Please wait until you receive the correspondence before sending us additional information, as the correspondence will outline all information that is required.
5. We sent you a notice on June 14, 2019 to appear and write the citizenship test on July 9, 2019 at 1:30 PM. The notice you will receive by mail will be your official confirmation of your appointment. If you have not received this notice prior to the date of your scheduled appointment, please contact us.
6. We sent you a notice on July 18, 2019 to appear and take the oath of citizenship at the citizenship ceremony to be held on August 6, 2019 at 9:00 AM. The notice you will receive will be your official confirmation of your appointment. If you have not received this notice prior to the date of your scheduled appointment, please contact us.
7. You became a Canadian citizen on August 6, 2019.
