I would suggest that when you are going to reply with this original thread-mail . You can use original email id. CPC-CTD-Ottawa <CPC-CTD-Ottawa@cic.gc.ca> instead of received mail id.

Option 1 : So at least you will talk with original mail id. If it is genius then they will call back you. Don't panic and don't commit about money stuff. Just listen them.

Option 2 : After committed date/time. you can approach fraud department also so they will track details too. What's going on?

Last week, I got a mail and below is the signature of CIC.

Crap, this is a really though call. The entire e-mail looks authentic, but his signature is wrong. I wouldn't know what to do. Probably calling CIC will clear things out.

Talk to the guy. I am guessing he is doing a background check. People doing are not allowed to be known to the applicant. I've talked to couple of them (not with my PR nor CIC). They might be having some problems checking your work or whatever. This is my guess.

If they ask for money or threat you then you know it is a scam.

Don't mind the wrong email address. This is just an email signature for outgoing mail where this David when writing his signature made a typo. Probably he is new as well and the best thing to get some info is to talk to you directly.

Maxmoore mentioned to call CIC call centre if you really want to make sure but do you actions immediately.

Best of luck! Let us what the outcome is.

Calling for information is not a common practice for CIC. I think CIC prefers email or mail communications simply because they want to have a record of communications - and phone calls do not provide it.

I would not reply such an email until I am 100% sure it's genuine. I would call CIC call center (or email Ottawa) and confirm with them that the officers call applicants for information, and it is safe to provide such callers with personal information.

As I suggest that reply back with original mail id. Below BOLD one is employer id or sender id because I received mail from CPC but having different ID. So might be possible that when you reply back to original mail so if it is correct one then they will contact you. Otherwise, it will fraud.

This e-mail has many red flags, and is 100% fake. The person is asking to talk to you between 4 pm and 11 pm, which are not CIC's business hours. This fake person is based somewhere overseas and because of the time difference with Canada, he can talk to you only between 4 pm and 11 pm.

To check if it is from a genuine source.. do the following
1. In you inbox when you select the mail -> go to more -> click on show original (in case of gmail)
2. find "received From" line and get the ip address
3. search for ip address in www.who.is
This will give you the approximate location from where the mail had been sent. Hope it works.. don't commit for anything.

Morning Guys!!

Update on my case: I have just spoken with CIC call centre and was told that the call I received last night was genuine.
It is on my file that an officer tried to reach me over the phone last night seeking for information.

I will answer his email and wait for his call.

I will keep you guy posted.

PVR, thats for your tips. I will do that, just to make sure.

That's great! Glad you called the call center. :)

So, that explains why we receive PPRs or AORs at night! An officer might work in shifts at CIC such us from 4pm to 11pm. Good to know!

I was wondering how/why yesterday's call ended. Was it because your refused to answer his questions?
