I am not certain that I can say that I am thankful to be stuck in limbo, exactly, but I am learning how much my husband means to me and I mean to my husband. I also have fairly strong and recent evidence that what feels like a setback now may prove to be a very good thing in hindsight.
About 2 years ago, I got laid off. I moved into a friend's spare room and signed up for food stamps and pretty much hunkered down because the economy was so awful, who knew how long I'd be unemployed? Well, a few months later, I finally got my final check with unused vacation and so on. I dutifully reported it, and the unemployment checks stopped coming while they tried to figure out if I was still eligible. It took them TWO STINKING MONTHS. Eight weeks where my only income was food stamps. No dollar theater, no cheap magazines, no taco bell instead of not cooking, nothing. For eight weeks. My savings just barely kept my bills paid so that I had a phone and Internet to look for work and car insurance so I could get to any potential interviews.
Sounds awful, right? I am so glad that I did report that check, though. After those 8 weeks were up, they gave me all that back pay at once, which meant I had enough money for a plane ticket home the same weekend my friend from Canada came for a visit. Not only did I get to see her again, she'd brought a friend. I didn't know it at the time, but that weekend I met my husband.
So, yeah, waiting sucks. But manure fertilizes roses, y'all.
