Hi guys,

I will get straight to the point. Since I sent my application for PR Card renewal I did not leave Canada. My application was approved the day after it was received. On the next 13th of February 2023, I will finally have exact 3 out of 5 years within Canada. My question is: I will travel to Brazil probably around the 25th of February for a 1 month stay and I am thinking about applying for citizenship before the departure. By that date, I will have accumulated around 1105 days out of 5 years. Do you guys think I should wait a bit longer to send the citizenship application?

Thank you!

If your calculations are correct then you should be good. But I'll double check and triple check. If possible give someone else the dates to calculate to be sure you get the same figures. Next year the applications may move pretty quickly if they implement all the new measures so you'll have to check the tracker and emails regularly.

Thank you again!
They were hiring new staffs and they seem to be clearing up the backlog pretty quickly. Once the holidays is over and most staff come back to work, there may be a few in person tests and interviews. Lots of offices have began in person oath ceremonies. I can imagine that they might pick a few applicants to do everything in person within a short period of time.

Good to know! I used now the Physical Presence Calculator and it looks like if I apply on the 22nd of January 2023 I will already have 1096 days. When you have a time, coud you please check my dates? Thanks once again!

If you used the physical presence calculator, no need for someone else to redo the same thing and come up with the same result...

The only thing you have to keep in mind is to make 200% sure that the dates you provided are accurate if you're applying with a limited buffer over the required minimum. The forum is full of people who applied with 1097 days, and then fell short due to a forgotten vacation.

How you approach this (apply earlier with a small backlog va apply later with a large backlog? ) is up to you if you kept note of your entry/exit history, and there's no real way to say how fast your application will go. Good luck!

You seem to have quite a bit of travel. You should look at your passport to be sure there's no trip missing. Maybe give some buffer space to be extra sure

I kept note of all entries and exits. Quite sure they're right! I see you use "le drapeau du Québec" as profile pic!

I'd suggest going through this page:
https://www.canada.ca/fr/immigration-refugies-citoyennete/services/citoyennete-canadienne/devenir-citoyen-canadien/admissibilite/preuve-competences-linguistiques.html

While it says that 'attending' may be enough, it then seems to require that the program be completed (or currently attending). On the other hand, possible a transcript (hence acceptance) would be enough.

Other key point: when you got PR status, did you present any tests of French? (Was that when/for which you got the Test de francais international?) If so, you may be good.

That said: if you are not certain in the above steps, my personal suggestion would be to pay the money and take the required test before you apply. I think it costs less than $300. If your French (or English) is good enough, you then will have no doubt, it won't hold up your app, and won't have to deal with it ever again.

Again: this is if you are not certain and can't (for example) clarify the issue about the 'attendance' vs completion of educaiton.
