Guys, Finally found out a way to open an account in a Canadian bank before you land there.

http://www.bmo.com/home/personal/banking/everyday/newcomers-to-canada/open-account

Check this out. There are some terms and conditions as always. But it is possible. I am in Ireland and there is no Canadian bank here and so it was getting difficult. People in India can do it with lot of canadian banks in the big cities. This is for people who do not have a canadian bank in their place of living.

Cheers

Thanks for the info kolhapuri, good to see you post again :)

Too early to ask...but asking.

Anyone opened Canadian Bank account in India before landing?

If so......n also others who have info plz reply.

Is it a NRI account or Canadian Resident account?

When can one open the account?...what documents are required.

How much max amount can we deposit....do we need to show proof from where we got that amount?

Will Indian Taxes will be applicable for that deposited amount?

Name of Banks?

And any other details if u know......

Scotia is the best I would say. You can open the account from Delhi / Mumbai once you get the visa they will need your corp paper. It is handled by HDFC in India.

Guys,

I dont want to confuse you folks but wanna give some info.

I dont understand the need to open an account from your native country. Lets say, From India. If there is any benifit without including cost factor, go for it. But, I want to highlight these facts as written below. There is some thing called as "Welcome Package" for new "landed immigrants". If you get a good deal than written below, then go for it in your native country. The below points are from rbc bank. you can browse other bank websites too.

The RBC Welcome to Canada Banking package includes:
1) Free RBC Day to Day Banking® for 12 months - with 15 free debit transactions per month
2) An RBC Rewards® Visa‡ Gold card or any other eligible credit card, no credit history required
3) One year free safe deposit box (bank locker) and exclusive cell phone offer
4) Use of all 4,237 RBC ATMs, the largest network8 across Canada
5) Free access to online banking with bill pay

I just did a copy n paste from rbc website. Just and FYI (For Your Info.)

For more info, Here is the link.

Hi Vishal,

Its a mystery....but we know very well by now that "treating files in the order of priority and fairness" has eluded many applicants.

This is what I think:

1. Many applicants on tracker might not have updated their status thus creating a false impression.
2. Not all files are similar and the complexity of the files renders the pace of processing.
3. Luck plays a crucial part...If you are lucky to get an over enthusiastic VO who would clear your file in approx 4.5 months (Doglover, NDVO) or unlucky one to have your file move to In Process after 1.4years (Harjot, NDVO).
4. Yes, we did observe the "SKIPPING" trend for Feb applicants which was disappointing and again is being repeated for April applicants....I can only say that the BUNCH is with a LAZY VO....hope he wakes up. :)

5. Anybody crossing the 6 month wait period should send CSE...it is the RIGHT of the applicant to know the status of his/her application.

6. Vishal, unless we sneak into the offices of the VOs, we will NEVER come to know the REAL Stratergy......guess, guess and guess is what we can do. But they will take care of the files...I am sure. ;D ;D ;D

Mitali

NB: Vishal, are you AEO or at a job in Canada already?....this will also affect the processing time. Be ready to provide RCMP fingerprints if you are residing in Canada...it may be asked for.

yes mitali i m in toronto and i do have AEO
hoping for the good news before christmas

Buffalo's,

I received an email today from Buffalo a few minutes ago in response to an email I sent Nov. 8th. Here is the exchange...

On Nov. 8th, I wrote...

"Dear Sir or Madam,

I recently started working for ...

One question...I had thought of sending a separate Case Specific Inquiry, as I am still listed as "Received By Visa Office" on ECAS. I realize ECAS is meant for inquiry from within Canada and can be buggy from outside Canada. Since I have a B File number, can I assume that I am actually "In Process"? If so, is there any additional information I could forward to you to streamline the process on your end?

I realize you are over-burdened and appreciate your efforts. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Today I received this email from BVO...

"Your application is in process. No further action is required by you at this time.

We thank you for your patience and for keeping your correspondence to a minimum.

Hi Mark,

Good that you have received a response from Buffalo VO. I am a december 2010 applicant.

Email that you have received is a standard response that buffalo VO would send it to every one who tries to enquire about status of the application. That email means your application is in queue. Sorry to dissappoint you. But, I want to let you know the fact that your application is in queue. I received the same standard response so far twice from Buffalo Visa office in past 2 months.

Thanks,
satya.

Mark,

Everyone in Buffalo that applied around our time is "in process". However I have two different definitions which is based on the actions that the VO does. The "in process not on ecas" which most of us are on, means very little given that CAIPS are blank we really have no Idea what it means vs "ecas in Process" where we know medicals or correspondence is on its way. I don't want to bring your hopes downs but it means very little now. The only ray of hope was that CanadaJimmy went in process a couple of days ago. My CAIPS and several other people show "In Progress" however nothing has happened for months.

All I am trying to say is that for me the real "hope" comes on the "ecas in process". I think that the files turn "in process on caips" as soon as they assign a B number

Just my thought

I definitely agree with satyasuman, I got the same reponse 4 months ago and got the same response few days ago. When buffalo visa office says in process, they are just talking about in terms of plain english. Remember, the E-CAS "IN-PROCESS" is a phase and buffalo visa office in process is just plain english.

I'll let you know if there is any change in ECAS and on my CAIPS (which should arrive in the next few weeks), but, as I've received several emails from BVO and never have been referred to as "in process", I'm going to continue to feel good about my and our applications.

All previous emails have stated "your application has been received by our office and has been updated...bla bla bla.", or something to that effect.

I'm telling you, there's going to be some movement soon on us.

Mark

If nothing else, it lets us know that at least one person is at work today at the Buffalo Visa Office! ;)

Hi mew2k10,

I hope it is a good sign for you but I am sorry to say that I received this reply from Buffalo on Aug 2011 and nothing has happened so far :(
It's good to think positive but in long time you will be frustrated and disappointed as you are not ready for it when nothing happens. I've told myself that the processing time for us would be at least 23 months according to their website and if I receive medical earlier I will be happy.
I applied on September 2010 and I am still RBVO!!! >:(

Good luck to everyone :)
