In BC school days are roughly 8:50 am - 3 pm. Parents are not allowed to drop children off much before that time and are expected to collect them as soon as school is out. In some schools, they have before and after care (privately paid for, but operated on school premises). Some day cares will deliver and pick up children from the schools as well. I don't know if all schools across Canada keep the same hours. Where my nephew went to school, they only had four days of school, but they were longer days. This was on Salt Spring Island, BC, where many children were brought to the main island by water taxi so it was more economical to transport them 4 days instead of 5. This is an unusal situation, but illustrates that it is important to know which school district you will be in. Worth a Google.indira_prab said:By any chance you know the school hours for a kid of 6 years? He will be in Grade 1 there. I am trying to check the necessity for the day care now!

Not eating out very often, but I think you would be wise to expect $5-600/month for a couple. WAYNE - this does NOT include bevvies either!! LOLCappuccino said:That's for a family of how many? 2? 4? etc?
Can't see husband+wife alone needing to spend 800 dollars per month on food!

Another thing to consider is what salary to aim for when going out there. Assuming I am doing the same level of software development do I just try to chase my current UK salary converted to CAD?Pippin said:Not eating out very often, but I think you would be wise to expect $5-600/month for a couple. you live in Sudbury.. ye!pradeepkumar_v said:Hi Indira,
Oh god no!. It won't definetely cost you $ 800 if you are cooking indian style food. I would say 200 - 300 per person with all five days of meat food. Which is what I am paying now a days but I am 4 hours from toronto and here groceries are little costlier than toronto. But definetely if you are cooking then it would be around 500 for 2 member and for a kid it is highly based what you feed him.
For rent in toronto, my friends live there it is costing them 1100 for 2 bedroom apartment. I know you can get $700 - $800 for a decent 1 bedroom apartment in a decent location as a start.
Hope this helps!
Thanks,
Pradeep

I shop here in US in Costco and that was the first thing I checked if Toronto has it, and yes they do! It is a membership type of store and they sell stuff in bulks (restaurants supply there also!) but you end up paying half the price then in the regular store.

You got the price of transportation for Toronto right, but I just wanted to share a link with pricing:

Yes sudbury is a small town compared with Toronto and major cities . Public transpotations are available, it cost you $60 for monthly pass. Population is around 124000 only. Not much crowd but there is nothing much to do here.
Please let me know if you want some specific answers about sudbury!
