Hi there.

I've just been accepted to SENECA college for their post-graduate brand management program in the Fall of this year. Now, I have to apply for a student visa, of course, but before I do I need to ask a question regarding my tuition financing :

Seeing as I don't have the full 22,000 in my own bank account at this moment to show the visa officers, my friend in Canada has kindly offered to fund my tuition and board for the year. He is not a family member at all... just a very old friend and I am really grateful for his kind gesture. However, I am now wondering whether this would be acceptable as proof of financial means? When I read the section of financial proof on the CIC page for necessary documents, it states that you can provide "a letter from the person or institution providing you with money". My friend would surely qualify as "the person" providing me with finance?

Anyway, I would really appreciate some input in this regard. I can wait until I have enough money in my account in June... but seeing as a student visa takes 16 weeks to obtain in my country ... it would be too late for my course start date!

Well Hailey, it is a blessing for you to have an old friend willing to fund you for a year! If you'll accept your friend's help(as I have read through the forums), it is better if your friend can provide you a letter of support & your friend's proof of funding to support you, like bank statements, etc. I think. CAD$22,000 is a big amount already, but it's up to you to decide which options can make your application strong. & if it takes 16weeks to obtain visa, it is very advisable for you to apply as early as now! Good luck to & to all of us! Me, I am still waiting for my LOA, maybe(having hopes I am accepted) they mailed it through snail mail! & I haven't talked to my prospect to support me which is my sister..she's so busy,argh!

Nah man, still haven't received the tuition fee receipt from the university. It has been 15 days.
All other docs are ready and will file for visa as soon as I get the receipt.

I have applied last week and got the request for medical exam three days later. I have an appointment for the medical exam on May 6th. Are you already in London?

Hi Guys,

I have an unofficial email from a professor in the University of British Columbia, Vancouver that he will be accepting me into the ECE Master's program (September 2014). I'm still waiting for the official intimation from the department, and shall proceed with the Visa procedures once I receive the same. I am an applicant from India. I have gone through the forums and I have a few doubts that I would like cleared if possible:

1. For financial support, is it enough that we show the payment of the first year of tuition plus the GIC of C$10,000? If we show the above, is it necessary to provide any bank statements or Income tax returns?

2. Also, my Supervisor has informed me that he would be funding a Research Assistantship position for me, which would almost cover the cost of first year tuition + the GIC amount. In this case, is it enough if I present that document and show the balance as personal funding alone?

3. I have seen earlier in this thread some people mentioning that the Visa file can be processed only 120/90 days before start of term, while others have mentioned it is best to apply early. Can somebody clarify the same? When would you suggest I could apply? May-end or asap?

4. Finally, somebody had mentioned that they were submitting an SOP with their Visa documents. I have not seen the mention of the same, anywhere on the official websites of either Immigration Canada, or VFS India. Can somebody clarify if it is actually required?

1.Yes its enough but to make your case strong you can attach bank statements.
2.No.You need to show GIC or education loan plus the supporting document from the prof.
3.As may has arrived so you/I/We can apply anytime.
4.SOP is not mandatory but recommended.It is to convince the VO that you are genuine student,will return back to India etc etc.

Would it then be enough if I show Payment of First Year Tuition(FYT) + GIC + (Official Letter with Mention of Funding Amount=FYT+GIC)?

In this case would I need to show my bank statements? I would not be having that amount in it for a period of 4 months since almost everything is invested in Stocks or Fixed Deposits. That's why I'd ideally not prefer to show my bank statements and ITR's.

Now the ITR are the print outs from the computer so do i need to notarize these?
