My wife's passport expires next September and given that I just crossed the 180-day mark, we're hoping we should get the PPR and stamping done this month. Will there be any issues since we're so close to the 12-month validity clause?

It would. It's better to apply for a new passport ASAP. They also need 2 blank pages BTW.

Thank you for the response! According to the Indian Passport website: "You can not renew the passport more than one year before the expiration date of your current passport." This would mean that we have to wait till September 26, 2016 to start the renewal process.

We plan to land in Canada before that date, as soon as we get PPR -- so you can see how this is a bit of a dilemma for us. What would you advise?

Yes, my wife's passport expires on September 25, 2017. So we're very close to being within 12 months of validity, which you had mentioned earlier to be an issue.

I really doubt that should be an issue. Could you please cite the source where it is mentioned that if your passport is valid for less than 12 months could be an issue.

The only problem one could have because of validity of passport is that if their passport is no longer valid or has very short validity left at the time of receiving CoPR/visa. In that case it will be terribly difficult to do landing at a very short notice. I cannot see that happening in your/wife's case. Relax
