Canada is taxing you on worldwide income as well.
Actually, looks like they have foreign tax credits to avoid double taxation on foreign income:

..the foreign tax credit recognizes tax paid to a foreign government on income earned in a foreign country..

US on the other hand could care less..lol

Guilty here! US immigration s*cks big time. Not to mention their worldwide income taxation. We all should be proud to call Canada our (future) home.
Agreed. Have you heard of Ted Cruz's proposed plan to eliminate OPT for international students? Just one more reason I'm fed up trying to fight this system.

Almost all of GOP bash H1B and OPT programs. Only exception is Trump who is flip-flopping on the issue, but of course is a total nightmare in other areas (including immigration).

In most cases you would still need to pay something even if there is tax agreement between Canada and other country to avoid double taxation. For example as per Canada-US agreement, Canadian resident still need to pay 15% tax on US-sourced income. On the other hand if you're Canadian citizen/PR but not resident, you don't need to pay tax on worldwide income.

First of all - hi everybody, it's great to see there's a lot of us here. Thanks for creating the thread, Masha :)

Second of all - I wonder if I should be worried about this:

Exactly. You need two post secondary certificates for 50 points on education + language in transferability.
I did get 50 points in skills transferability section under education + language, and I'm hoping that they'll treat my 'specialist' diploma as Bachelor's + Master's, like Canadaistheway said. On the other hand, if I do lose 25 points out of those 50, I should be ok as long as I stay above the cutoff of my draw, right?

I've read that the question of whether you are a resident or not in this case can be pretty unclear, they decide it based on whether you have "significant ties" to Canada, or something. Though I'll admit I haven't studied the question in depth yet.

If you are not in Canada for ~180 days and more in year (don't remember exact number) than you pretty much considered as non resident. Your medical insurance will be void, etc. If you are in Canada for a full year, you can still argue against CRA that you are not resident because you don't have "significant ties" (etc.).

I'm pretty sure many people with similar backgrounds will second me here - the U.S. immigration system is just NOT friendly unless you are in STEM professions. It is very difficult to get an employment-based green card. My employer filed for my work visa, but chances are, I might not get it because of the cap the Congress sets every year on the number of visas issued.
I haven't realise this, unfortunately that's true. Have you ever guys, considered Australia over Canada? Sorry for non Russian keyboard, you can reply in Russian if you want.

I thought the 183 days rule doesn't apply here? I mean, in case of taxes specifically, not sure about insurance and everything else. I know that's how it works in Russia, and everything is pretty straightforward that way, but for the CRA I found this document:
http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tx/tchncl/ncmtx/fls/s5/f1/s5-f1-c1-eng.html - 'secondary residential ties' is the interesting section.

Hey, I'm also from Piter. I did exactly the same, so gonna share some wisdom. :D I made a POA (dovetennost) for my sis in the Embassy (costs smth around $30-40) and sent it to her with my Diploma. She, in turn, went here http://knvsh.gov.spb.ru/gosuslugi, called them (apparently there is an appointment required, so if u gonna do that ask your parents to call and set it now, while you doing the POA) and then it took 35 days to get it back. It is the only honest way, without overpaying somebody. Hope it helps.
Het there, I just sent my letter of attorney to my mom and the person at Комитет по Науке is asking for a notarized copy of ALL pages of my passport. Which, in turn, I could only get at the consular section of the Embassy. Was that required when your sister went to get the apostille for your diploma? Really appreciate the help.

Hi, not at all. My sis had a POA + normal copy of my passport (internal one) and that was it.
Maybe your mom can wait and try with another person (if any)

if you do not have PR there is "no need" to show foreign income (by no need I mean nobody actually checking it).
But even on PR I know lots of people who did not declare any income from their country and did not have any problems (friends are from Ukraine,Russia and Poland). So mostly it depends on people choice if foreign income is not counted in hundred thousands :)

Hello guys! Hope all ok at your side!
I am still waiting for OINP nomination and to be precise, waiting for AOR and nomination with docs being submitted in Dec.
I updated my WES report by adding Bachelor degree from Kazakhstan. It could have been done for free if I had included it in the assessement from the very beginning. But it is ok, now it is done and EE profile updated.
What's new with you all? :)
