Hi,
i have a specific inquiry on my friends behalf. She is 21 yo female who moved to Canada from turkey when she was 18. She has not seen her mother for three years. Her mother is applying for a 3 month visit visa. My friend is currently enrolled in second year of university. She has a part time job, and a letter from her employer that she makes 1800 a month. Her mother is retired at 42 yo, with around 30,000 dollars in her bank account, family, and a house in turkey. The reason for visit is to obviously visit her daughter who is BTW a PR. What can we do to beef up the application... is that amount of money sufficient?? Even though her mom is retired we can try to get her a job offer for when she returns maybe that will help in her case, to show intent to return. We are getting a doctors note that shows she is scheduled every 6 months for appointments. Her mom might also get re married (as she is divorced)... after she return, what evidence do we have to show for this??? Any ideas would really help, anything that worked for someone else. I also read that my friend living in Canada does not have to show any financial accounts, and she cannot be rejected on this basis. She NEEEEEDS this application to be iron clad. She misses her mother.... alot and does not have the time to travel with university. oh her mother has been to egypt and returned.... and has visa for greece...

Truth is your friend. Be honest!!! If your friend's mother has a family, other children, hopefully younger than your friend then the family maybe sufficient tie to make her want to go back to her country of origin. Otherwise, if your friend is an only child then her pull will be stronger than the ties back home. There is no iron clad application because we don't know how the officers think and judge applications. BTW, can't a PR sponsor her relatives? Has she explored the possibility of sponsoring her mom? Just my two cents.

Might help if you read the documents that need to be submitted together with her mom's application:

no, never really thought of sponsoring... she is a student so we assume she would have to wait till she got a proper job which could be another 2 - 3 years. on top of that the lengthy sponsorship process. The mother has no other children nor a husband (at the moment)... do u think her "future wedding" would be sufficient and what kind of evidence do we have to provide for that. What about a future job offer...??

oh i would like to also know what kind of financial documentation my friend would need to show from Canada. Bank statement ?? tax forms ?? OSAP documents ??

I will reiterate what job_seeker just said: The truth is your friend and there is no such thing as iron clad. Your friend should only provide what she has and should not go too out of the way until she appears desperate. My retired Mom also visited my sister - a Canadian Student living alone and not making a lot of money. The application was simple - a heartfelt letter from my sis inviting my Mom, proof of employment, proof of citizenship and a letter from her bank (she obviously didn't have thousands of dollars and neither did my Mom) but the application was believable. She was granted the visa to visit, stayed for five weeks and left. Hopefully in the future we can apply for a PR for her. Good Luck to your friend.

on the invitation letter she wrote she would be visiting for 3 months... is that not too much... should we get refundable return tickets?? to show proof she is going back

Round-trip tickets are a must, if the mother was able to obtain a visitor visa and flying in to Canada. If they want to get the refundable tickets is all up to them. The problem here would be making the visa officer believe that she (the mother) is actually going back to her home country once she was able to get to Canada, considering she is an only child. A "future wedding" can always be canceled you know :) Maybe your friend and her mom could write letters that will be attached to the mother's application explaining their situation. Maua, actually laid it out for you. Be honest. The truth is simple.

i guess that what we'll do now... write a honest personal letter to supplement what we have already done. We might as well skip on the wedding approach this time. However, if she gets denied we will have to beef up the application.

Your choice but hopefully your friend's mom gets a visitor visa. All the best.

But i'm still not to clear on the following; should she purchase ROUND TRIP tickets (refundable of course) BEFORE she applies for visa so she can send them the receipts W/ visa application for a round trip flight. We have also got a notarized recommendation from a Municipal government member, stating they would appreciate it if they would grant her mother a visa... were not to sure what to think of that though

No she does not need to. She can get the round trip air fare tickets if and when she gets her visa.

Please don't do this. There there is no such thing as 'might get remarried' in the eyes of Immigration it will have no value. Everyone on the planet could claim they might get married; it bears no weight whatsoever.

Please don't misrepresent the truth - if you do, you will make it more difficult for THOUSANDS of other applicants. Each time someone is dishonest in this process the number who suffer innocently is exponential.

Be honest and forthright and hope to succeed.
