I don't think it is MUST. But as they (parents) will NOT get Health benefits in first 90 days, so lots of people buy private insurance, just in case parents needs to see the doctor OR if any emergency happened. So it is just to be safe. I think it is good to buy one.

hi im new to this site.. i have question. pls help. my friend's mom is with pending parents sponsorship. shes here in canada since 2011.with visitor visa. but then september 2015 she decided to go backhome in Philippines and just wait for the sponsorship approval there.. her temporary visa is expired october 2015..

1. is she gonna have a problem coming back here if ever her sponsorship got approved as she have expired visa?
2. is there any update for parents sponsorship 2011 applicants?

If she get approved and get PR there should not be any problem entering into Canada. However, they will ask question and explanation before approving PR why she over stayed?

Temporary visa and Permanent application are totally two different things/entities

Temporary visa is issued to visit/Enter Canada. Live here for six months or Two years (if Super Visa) and then go back. Temporary visa is NOT something anyone can stay here for ever. However Temporary visa is issued for 10 years. Also depends upon the validity of passport. So if it is less than 10 years then have to apply again to visit Canada.

Sponsorship application is different than Temporary visa and when approved, she can came to Canada to Live/stay for ever. It has nothing to do with Temporary Visa

So Temporary Visa and PR sponsorship are two different things

I had applied for my parent sponsorship in June 2010 and still waiting. There is time line under my USER ID and also under signatures.

Your friend has to tell more where the application is, e.g what is last correspondence he/she got from CIC and when was it? Only then someone here to advice

u mean even her extension visa expired a year ago she can still apply for new one?

she came here with single entry visa june 2011 then they apply for extension and they got approved for 2years then before it expires they apply for extension again and approved for 2years again. but then that time she forgotto renew it on time so she decided to go backhome instead..

Hi Cgill! 90 days not correct as in BC the medical coverage starts when I become PR plus next 2 months after that eg if u become PR on 31st Aug 2016 the medical starts from Nov 1st 2016. Hope it clarify you now.

Think this way, She has no visa at the moment, because the older one is expired and gone. It is null and VOID. So if she want to visit Canada again, she has to do all over again , what she did to get her original visa in 2011. Of-course she don't need any visa if she is getting her PR approval in near future.

But if her PR is not near, she has other options. Supervisa, Multiple entry visitor visa. These are normally for 10 years. For Super visa she can stay here for 2 years and then extend stay as she did before. For supervisa her kids (sponsor) has to met Income criteria. If they could not then Multiple entry visitor visa they can try

As far as i know when visa validity expired , it can not be extended, you have to reapply. The extension she got here Canada in the past was extension to stay NOT the Visa. So here visa was expired somewhere in end 2011 or 2012

Each province is different but as cgill is referring to Ontario then it is a wait of 90 days from date of landing as PR for provincial healthcare to become available to new residents.

They can still ask for more documents they did with one of my friend. So far I have not received anything after my medical was done. I am hoping PPR too.
