    damn, they received my application on March 18 2014 then I added my wife in July. ecas would say application received March 18 but today it says We received your application for permanent residence on July 18, 2014. adding my wife set me back 4 months.

    it means there was a bump in your application. Some extra document needed or check or something was added or removed. Someone that seems to be a non visa officer, some kind of document administrator, gathers the documents and puts everything together for a visa officer. Once all is good to go...

    Medical without a request for the same?

    Don't do that. They time it when they send you the medical request so it doesn't expire and you don't have to do it again. It will also delay your application since they won't check the application and they'll let it sit until you redo the medicals again. Medical exams are valid for 12 months...

    I recommend you search this forum for answers. In short I'll tell you this. If you get married it will affect her PR. It'll take longer. If you get married and don't tell CIC, the application will be rejected as it's considered fraud if you don't tell them.
